Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Olivia of the Brook is an amazing card in long fights

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Olivia of the Brook.

Featured cards

Olivia of the Brook is a life splinter that costs 11 mana. This card starts with the opportunity ability. It learns mimic and reflection shield at level 6. This is a fairly good card if the match lasts long enough once you have mimic. Depending on what your opponent uses, you can get some great abilities on this card as it copies one ability every single turn.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Noxious Fumes and Equalizer. This means that all monsters start with the same health, and they also start off poisoned. There is also 40 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Avina of the Wolf5SummonerHeal or +2 speed
Mantaroth111stShield and Armored Strike
Albahoo Forester22ndReturn Fire
Moxian Rebel43rdWeapons Training
Nimbledook Explorer44thProtect
Olivia of the Brook65thOpportunity and Mimic
Luceheim Demon76thSnipe and Cleanse
Total Mana:39

I use Avina of the Wolf as my summoner because it can give heal to one unit. Mantaroth is my tank with shield to reduce physical damage and armored strike to deal extra damage. Albahoo Forester is my second monster as a backup tank with return fire. Moxian Rebel is my 3rd monster with weapons training. Nimbledook Explorer gives my monsters protect. Olivia is my 5th monster and Luceheim Demon is my last monster with snipe and cleanse.

My strategy is to use Mantaroth as my tank, and if I give it heal from my summoner, then it will be able to survive longer. Luceheim Demon in my last spot will remove the poison so it should do well as a tank. My support monsters are more or less there to deal damage due to weapons training, but the protect will be useful as the extra armor will help quite a bit. As for Olivia, with the equalizer ruleset, it will survive for quite a while. I am hoping that I am able to get some good abilities during that time period.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match could go either way. The magic monsters can hurt my tank, so it will depend on whether or not my tank will die. I do think that I do have the damage advantage.

Round 4

round 4.png
I haven't lost any monsters, but my opponent lost 2 monsters. I think this is my win because I don't see how my opponent can outdamage me because I have repair on Olivia so Mantaroth is not in any danger of dying.

I ended up winning this match a round later as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time did play out as I expected. Mantaroth was a great tank, and combining it with all those support abilities from the summoner and monsters made it a beast. The first ability that Olivia copied was repair, and that helped make sure that Mantaroth survived. I feel that Olivia became more useful as it got more abilities. It even ended up with armored strike so it was able to deal extra damage. My entire strategy worked out quite well, and I think Olivia has some decent uses.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Yea. The mimic ability is overpowered in the right fights. If it can get bloodlust, it can be crazy powerful too.
