Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Marlai Singariel and magic is powerful in foundational battles

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles, with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Marlai Singariel.

Featured cards

Marlai Singariel is a water summoner that costs 6 mana. It gives +1 magic to all monsters, and increasing the level increases the maximum level of cards that can be on your side. I have been using this card quite a bit because magic is very powerful in the lower leagues. I managed to level this card to level 2, and I have noticed that has helped me a bit in matches.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is Aim True and Fog of War. This means that snipe, opportunity, and sneak won't work. Also, attacks can't miss.. I can use water, life, or dragon splinter, and I have 68 mana available.

I use Marlai Singariel as my summoner because it gives +1 magic damage. Port Guardian is my tank up front as I want something tanky to take some hits. After that is Great Bear Druid as my backup tank with both magic and melee damage. Lunaki Howler, Water-Logged Wizard, and Saltwater Mage are my damage dealers. My last monster is New Beluroc Aegis with taunt.

My strategy is to tank the attacks with my tank, backup tank, and taunt monster. The rest of my monsters will all deal magic damage. The taunt monster will take any damage that I get from ranged or magic monsters. It's a buffer, as I will be relying on my magic monsters to kill off the monsters on my opponent's end. These magic monsters will be able to ignore any shield that my opponent has, and I have a total of 9 magic damage at the start of the fight every turn.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My magic damage will be quite large, and my opponent will have a tough time killing off my taunt monster. The first turn won't kill off my taunt monster and the magic damage that I have will deal quite a bit of damage. I am a bit concerned about my opponent's level advantage, but I don't think it will be that dangerous.

Round 3

round 3.png
My opponent is down to two monsters left, and they are both ranged monsters. I have only lost my taunt monster, and there is zero chance for my opponent to win because magic can't miss. My taunt monster did its job before it died, and the level advantage wasn't an issue.

I ended up winning later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time did play out as I expected. My opponent played out a heavy magic damage lineup, but I was able to win the match because magic monsters attack slower due to the reverse speed ruleset. At the same time, the support abilities made it possible for me to win the match without too many issues. Chaos Jailer did a great job this fight because the poison landed on three monsters, and this let me deal some extra damage. By removing the magic monsters, I was able to reduce the damage taken and win the match without as many issues.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

This one is good, it just gets countered by death summoner + mouse soldier with mage armor

Yea. It's tough to beat that death combination. I have lost to water even with the mouse sometimes. It depends on the lineup though.

Excellent battle! You defeated a Level 4 Archon opponent, and you didn't even count on the legendary Mystic Scaleweaver! Once you have it, it'll be a formidable opponent. Good luck!

I haven't had any luck getting it. I wouldn't mind having the slow as it would make my magic monsters more effective.
