Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Make the most of your mana
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I made use of my mana and used as many monsters as possible.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Back to the Basics, Reverse Speed, and Heavy Metal. This means that all monsters lose their abilities, the attack order is reversed, and only armored monsters can be used. I can use fire, water, or earth splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Bortus | 3 | Summoner | -1 magic |
Diemonshark | 8 | 1st | |
Relenor Cleaver | 9 | 2nd | |
Cruel Sethropod | 3 | 3rd | |
River Hellondale | 7 | 4th | |
Gargoya Devil | 7 | 5th | |
Swamp Spitter | 7 | 6th | |
Total Mana: | 44 |
I use Bortus as my summoner because it reduces my enemies magic by 1. Diemonshark is my tank due to its high armor and stats. After that is another high armored monster Relenor Cleaver for a similar reason as a backup tank. I have a filler monster and 3rd backup tank by using Cruel Sethropod. After that, I filled the rest of my lineup with magic and ranged monsters. I was quite limited in my choices since many of my magic or ranged monsters did not have armor and the ruleset limited me to armored units only.
My strategy is to tank with my first 3 monsters, while my last 3 monsters act as a damage dealer. There are no abilities and only armored units in this fight, so I am limited in my own choices. I opted more for high stat monsters up front with high armor because my summoner already reduces magic damage by 1. Magic will still be my weakest point, but hopefully, I will be able to make up for it with my damage dealers. I know that my monsters aren't the slowest, so they can't take advantage of the reverse speed ruleset, but I opted more for stats and damage over speed. I tried to use up as much mana as I could, and since this was a brawl, I had one extra mana to use compared to the what the ruleset specifies.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent may have a level advantage over me, but they did not use up all the mana they had available. My opponent doesn't have as much damage as me, and I feel that my opponent went with a lineup without considering the ruleset. I thought that I wasn't taking advantage of the reverse speed much, but it looks like my opponent will suffer more compared to me.
Round 4
I fast-forwarded to round 4 because I didn't think it was that interesting, as there were no abilities. I lost one monster while my opponent lost 2, and there is zero chance of my opponent winning because I have a magic monster on my side.
I ended up winning later this round as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. My choice of using up as mana as possible on monsters with good stats up front worked out because my damage dealers were able to deal damage without any worries. I thought the reverse speed would work against me, but my opponent decided to use higher level cards so it wasn't an issue. I also think my opponent made a mistake by not placing enough monsters because there was so much mana leftover on his side. I guess he didn't have many cards even if they were leveled up.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Strange lineup your opponent picked with that rules

That's really smart use of mana. Focusing on high armor and damage is best bet for that ruleset. You're just outsmarting the opponent 😂😂
