Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Drybone Barbarian is a great damage dealer

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Drybone Barbarian.

Featured cards

Drybone Barbarian is a life splinter that costs 9 mana. This card is a gladiator, and it starts with the enrageability. It learns retaliate at level 5 and knock out at level 9. This is a fairly good card to use because of its high damage, but it can only attack from the first location. When up against melee monsters, it can retaliate, and this lets it do even more damage. I have this card at level 8, so it has the retaliate ability.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Target Practice, Deflection Field, and Need for Speed. This means only that monsters with 3 or more speed can be used, and all monsters gain the snipe and reflection shield ability. There are also 33 mana available, and I can choose life and dragon splinter.

I use Franz Ruffmane as my summoner for the +1 armor and gladiator. I have Drybone Barbarian as my tank and Chaos Agent as my 2nd monster with dodge for those magic or ranged monsters. Then I have Captain Katie as a damage dealer with bloodlust. Supply runner is there to increase my speed with swiftness. My last monster is Venari Crystalsmith with tank heal.

Round 1

round 1.png

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. Damage-wise, I have the advantage, but it depends on whether or not I miss my attacks. My opponent has faster speed than me, but I think Drybone will do a good job of killing monsters.

Round 2

round 2.png
I killed off three monsters on my opponent's side, so I think this match is my win. There are two melee monsters, and if my Drybone hits them, they should go down quite fast. I don't think there is much my opponent can do at this point.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds later, as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time played out how I wanted it to. My focus was on trying to deal damage with Drybone on the melees up front, and deal with the rest in the back with the rest of my monsters. It worked out as intended, and my speed also helped out a bit to land my hits. Drybone did a great job of killing off those melee monsters, as they almost all died in 1 hit after it got enraged.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

It's a great card with retaliate, before having it, so and so

Yea. It's average when it doesn't have retaliate, but it still deals a bunch of damage without it.

Strategy worked with the barbarian. Sometimes it's hard to beat the barbarian in a melee match, and it took out 50% of the opponent's lineup

Yea. In a melee match, Barbarian is too powerful. I like using it when I can kind of guarantee it doesn't get hit by many ranged/magic attacks.

Against magic and range, it can be very vulnerable, but when you're sure it's coming up against melee, it's always a star
