Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Betrol Gobson is great when bloodlust stacks
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles, with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Betrol Gobson.
Featured cards
Betrol Gobson is an earth splinter that costs 2 mana. This splinter starts with the opportunity and bloodlust ability. It learns poison at level 6. This is a decent card, but I don't use it too often unless it's a low mana match because of Katrelba Gobson. I do think its a fairly good card for the low mana cost though.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Up Close & Personal, High Five, and Are You Not Entertained?. This means that only melee monsters can be used, you can use an extra gladiator card in the match, and only up to 5 monsters can be used. I can use any splinter except for water.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Wizard of Eastwood | 3 | Summoner | -2 armor |
Pelacor Mercenary | 7 | 1st | Flying |
Uraeus | 3 | 2nd | Sneak |
Bertrol Gobson | 2 | 3rd | Opportunity and Bloodlust |
Katrelba Gobson | 6 | 4th | Sneak, Double Strike, and Bloodlust |
Screeching Vulture | 3 | 5th | Flying and Opportunity |
Total Mana: | 24 |
I use Wizard of Eastwood as my summoner for the -2 armor. Pelacor Mercenary is my first tank with flying. After that is Uraeus with sneak. Bertrol Gobson is my 3rd monster and a decent damage dealer. Katrelba Gobson is another gladiator and its powerful with the double strike and sneak along with bloodlust. Screeching Vulture is my last monster with both flying and opportunity.
My strategy is to deal as much damage to my opponent as I can before my various monsters go down. Uraeus can tank some opportunity hits. Vulture can tank some sneak damage, and Mercenary is a strong flying tank up front. The gladiators are my main damage dealers as I think that targetting the backline can be quite powerful.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. My opponent is using a demoralize monster and that reduces my melee damage, but the only good thing is that my opponent has spread out his damage. My opponent does have a level advantage, and his summoner does increase his damage. So it depends on how well my monsters can dodge some attacks.
Round 3
I fast-forwarded to round 3 because I didn't think it was that interesting to see me and my opponent trade blows. Betrol Gobson maanged to get a bloodlust, and I was able to deal quite a bit of damage.
Round 6
My opponent is down to 2 monsters so this my win, but Betrol Gobson did a great job by killing 2 monsters and increasing its stats due to bloodlust. With such a high speed, Betrol will kill off the Living Lava, and the last monster won't be an issue as it has low speed.
I ended up later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. I was worried that my opponent's level advantage and increase damage would destroy me, but my opponent ended up missing quite a bit. The bloodlust monsters like Betrol Gobson are powerful when they can start stacking bloodlust. It did quite a bit of work taking out the opponents to get stronger. I did not expect my opponent to use a demoralize monster as it made it harder for my gladiators to win the match.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I find this card useful in brawls, would be good on little mana matches but the summoner is 6 mana
Yea. It's low mana is good, but I tend to move towards Katrelba instead.

With the low mana cost and high speed, it would make it a serious threat, in melee heavy matches. Seeing it take out multiple monsters in one round is pretty cool too
It only took out 1 monster per round at most, but it did kill quite a few monsters.
