Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Battlefield Breakdowns! In Foundational and Blast Ruleset with Void
Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge that can be found in this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to learn about the game. In this week's challenge, we talk about a good combination that I have found in modern. I was struggling in Foundation Mode, but once I found some good combinations, my win rate went up, and I have been able to move up the ranks a bit. This means that I am able to make the battles more worthwhile to collect the daily rewards.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Explosive Weaponry and Manuevers. This means that all monsters gain the reach and blast abilities. There is also 39 mana available, and I can use any splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thalgrimore | 6 | Summoner | -1 Health |
New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 1st | Taunt |
Nim Guard Captain | 7 | 2nd | Void |
Little Sister | 6 | 3rd | Life Leech |
Sorrow Harvester | 7 | 4th | Weaken |
Grand Consul Minion | 4 | 5th | |
Total Mana: | 38 |
I use Thalgrimore as my summoner because I have gotten the highest win rate using death, and it gives -1 health to all enemy monsters. New Beluroc Aegis is my tank for its taunt ability. Nim Guard Captain is my backup tank with void ability. Little Sister is my 3rd damage dealer, and it has life leech so it could possibly work as a backup tank as well. Sorrow Harvester is my 4th monster with weaken. Grand Consul Minion is the 5th monster to use my leftover mana, and the ranged damage could be useful.
My strategy is to use the taunt monster up front to soak up damage, and this gives my damage dealers a higher chance of dealing damage. Nim Guard Captain is the ideal card in the second slot because any magic damage monsters won't be able to damage it much, and any physical attacks will go through its armor. When combined with the taunt monster earlier, it can soak up quite a bit of damage. Little Sister is useful due to the magic damage, and the life leech can be quite helpful if the match lasts long enough, and Sorrow Harvester reduces my enemies' health. Grand Consul Minion is a filler, but the damage can add up over time.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match can go either way, but I think that I have an advantage due to the Sister card. If I can get my opponent's first three monsters down, the match is almost guaranteed to be mine because ranged monsters can't attack from the first spot. We are both using the same strategy, so anything could happen either way.
Round 3
My opponent has lost his tank, and he is down to just the ranged monsters. At this point, there is no way my opponent can win due to all the monsters left.
I ended up winning this match later that round as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. It was a great idea to use taunt followed by a void monster afterward to reduce any magic damage taken. Both me and my opponent used the same strategy, but I think I won because I used the Sister magic monster. The extra health from the life leech ability was able to push the difference, and it would have given me the win even if my opponent had been able to take out two more monsters. It all comes down to strategy, but in modern and limited cards, it's a good idea to keep track of what can work. I just find that the void monster in the 2nd spot is the best choice when it comes to the blast ruleset. After that is the minor differences in abilities, and that life leech was just that much better compared to the extra ranged damage.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

good match bro and great strategy!
Yea. I like this strategy and I think death is my favorite foundational summoner.
