Splinterlands: Portly Cannoneer is great at increasing melee damage

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Portly Cannoneer.

Featured cards

Portly Cannoneer is a fire splinter that costs 4 mana. This card starts with the inspire. It learns return fire at level 5 and fury at level 9. This is a low mana card, and it increases melee damage. The only problem with it is the low health.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Standard. This means that there are no extra modifiers. There is also 46 mana available, and I can use fire, death, or dragon splinter.

This ruleset is interesting because it's a pure battle where rulesets don't change anything. It's all about how well your lineup is compared to your opponent.

Total Mana:46

My summoner is Dolfar Darflak for access to both dark and death monsters. My tank is Mantaroth with shield and armored strike. Thraghun is my backup tank with reach and cripple. After that are two opportunity monsters, followed by Portly Cannoner for the inspire. Finally, my last monster is New Beluroc Aegis with taunt.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Mantaroth is a tanky monster, so it fits up top, and Thraghun is a great damage dealer. The opportunity monsters are there to wipe out the backline, and New Beluroc Aegis will attract hits so Portly Cannoneer stays alive to give that melee boost.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match. My opponent doesn't have many monsters that can damage my Mantaroth, and the taunt will keep that magic monster away from Mantaroth or my Portly Cannoneer.

Round 6

round 6.png
A few rounds later, my opponent is down to 2 monsters left, while all of my monsters are alive. At this point, there is nothing my opponent can do to turn this match around.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. Portly Cannoneer buffed my melee monsters, and they made quick work of my opponent. The disadvantage of the low health didn't matter because I had a taunt monster to attract damage.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

You have a higher summoner and the armoured strike from the mantaroth made a huge difference too

The Inspire ability from Portly Cannoneer makes it a great addition to the team
