Splinterlands: Placement matters

avatar

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a battle where my opponent made a mistake with his lineup.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Standard. This means that there are no modifiers in this fight. There is also 39 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for life.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Kelya Frendul4Summoner+1 armor and speed
Alva the Crusher61stShield and Bloodlust
Flying Squid72ndReach
Demented Shark63rdInspire
Deeplurker64thOpportunity
Merdaali Guardian35thTank Heal
Swamp Spitter76thRepair
Total Mana:39

My summoner is Kelya Frendul for the +1 armor and speed. I have Alva the Crusher as my tank with shield and bloodlust. After that is Flying Squid as a backup tank with reach. Demented Shark has inspire, and Deeplurker has opportunity. Following that is a tank heal and repair monster.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. I am relying on my tanks to take the damage while the rest of my monsters deal damage. My melee monsters should be able to deal quite a bit of damage. The other monsters will support these melee monsters.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent doesn't have many monsters that can attack from their current position with full power, and the damage seems quite spread out as well. On the other hand, those opportunity monsters will wipe out my support monsters, but during that time period, my opponent will lose their tanks.

Round 6

round 6.png
A few round later, my opponent is down to 1 monster while I have 4 left. There is no chance my opponent can win because I have higher speed.

I won later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned. My melee monsters did a great job of dealing damage while my support monsters kept them alive. My opponent had some monsters that couldn't attack from their position, and I think that Coastal Sentry and the Bloodlust monster were in the wrong spots. This let me focus down his monsters and win the match without any issues.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Great selection.Using Swamp spitter with repair ability was key in this battle.Granting your tank +2 armor each round before it was taken out was impressive.Kudos.

Great game, I think the repair ability of that range card was very instrumental as well. I think the opponent couldn't finish off your rear cards on time, and the more you stayed active, the more it was possible to win

The speed and armor buff from Kelya Frendul is a major contributor in the match
