Splinterlands: Paying Attention to the ruleset is helpful
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a battle where I saw my opponent mess up when choosing his monsters.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Counter Spell and Healed Out. This means that all monsters gain the magic reflect ability, and healing abilities are ineffective. There is also 56 mana available, and I can use any splinter.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barthalamas | 6 | Summoner | +1 speed |
| Frankarsgard | 7 | 1st | |
| Chaos Furybringer | 6 | 2nd | Reach |
| Agniavan Salamander | 8 | 3rd | Blast |
| Sturdy Axe Warden | 8 | 4th | |
| A'lan Musketeer | 8 | 5th | Double Strike |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 6th | Taunt |
| Total Mana: | 51 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Barthalamas for the +1 speed. My tank is Frankarsgard. My backup tank is Chaos Furybringer with reach. Then I have my ranged monsters, followed by New Beluroc Aegis with taunt. Aegis will attract the hits and give my tank a better chance of surviving, and I put Agniavan Salamander as my first ranged monster because I want the other damage dealers to live longer. I chose not to use any magic monsters, so I would not get counter damage.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to my opponent using two magic monsters. My side also has more damage and speed, but my opponent has tankier monsters. I think the speed and damage is more important though.
Round 4

A few rounds later, my opponent has 2 monster while I have only lost 1 monster. There is no way for my opponent to turn this around because my monsters are faster.

I won later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. I went with all melee or ranged monsters, and it worked out well. Damage plus speed was quite good, and I think my opponent misplayed by placing some magic monsters into his lineup.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Absolutely Paying close attention to the ruleset can make a huge difference in Splinterlands. Sometimes the right strategy matters more than having the strongest cards. Great reminder
It sure is. Many times I was just throwing in battle same formation over and over again and than I was wondering how come I didn't won. Rule sets are important and having some different decks configurations will surely help to increase the winnings on the battlefield.
Very powerful range monsters, I think that was how you won the game. You also had speed advantage too, honestly those were good advantages. Great game all the same
I agree the speed and damage was a key factor in winning the match
