Splinterlands: Nim Guard Captain is great in Thick Skinned

avatar

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Nim Guard Captain.

Featured cards

Nim Guard Captain is a death splinter that costs 7 mana. This splinter starts with the void ability. Leveling up this card only increases the stats of this monster. I use this monster quite often in Frontier because it's the best tank available with the death splinters.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Thick Skinned. This means that all monsters start off with the shield ability. There is also 40 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for water and dragon.

This ruleset is interesting because ranged monsters and melee monsters deal less damage. Magic monsters are better as they are not affected.

Vengeful Monk72ndOpportunity
Little Sister63rdLife Leech
Sorrow Harvester74thWeakeen

Total Mana:39

My summoner is Thalgrimore for the -1 health. My tank is Nim Guard Captain. My backup tank is Vengeful Monk with opportunity. Then I have Little Sister and Sorrow Harvester as my magic damage dealers, followed by my only ranged monster Lenore Nevermore with snipe.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Nim Guard Captain has both void and shield through the ruleset, so it works well as a tank. The rest of my monsters can deal damage but it is a bit limited. The weaken and my archon both reduce health to help me kill monsters faster.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. My opponent has a level advantage over me, but I feel that I still have a decent chance due to Nim Guard Captain. I am worried about that poison that my opponent has, though.

Round 4

round 4.png
A few rounds later, my opponent is down to 1 monster while most of my monsters are alive. My opponent didn't land that poison until a few rounds in so Nim Guard Captain was able to stay alive long enough.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. Nim Guard Captain was a great tank, and I am glad that it didn't get poisoned until a few rounds in. Otherwise, I could have lost this match. In a way, having both void and shield makes it hard for such a tank to die. The rest of my lineup could focus on dealing damage.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

You had a great card in the first position, I mean the card that halves the melee damage. Great win as well.

The void ability from Nim Guard Captain is useful in the match as the opposing team has magic dealing monsters
