Splinterlands: My first time seeing the Backlash Ruleset

avatar

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a new ruleset called Backlash.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Up to Eleven and Backlash. This means all monsters gain the amplify ability, and any attacks that miss deal 2 damage to the attacker. There is also 28 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth, life, or dragon.

It's my first time seeing a backlash ruleset, and I think it is quite interesting. With this, you don't want to miss, so you want to have decent speed when you use physical units or magic units that can't miss.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Marlai Singariel6Summoner+1 Magic
Asel Alagosdil41stDivine Shield
Saltwater Mage82ndSneak
Mystic Scaleweaver93rdSlow
Total Mana:27

My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank isAsel Alagosdil with divine shield. After that is Saltwater Mage with sneak and Mystic Scaleweaver with slow.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while I deal as much damage as possible. I am using magic monsters because they can't miss, so I don't have to deal with any damage from the ruleset. At the same time, slow will reduce their speed and give me a higher chance of dodging any physical attacks.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match is to my advantage. My opponent can't even attack from their first position, and I have more damage than me opponent.

Round 4

round 4.png
A few rounds later, my opponent is left down to 1 monster while I still have all 3 of mine. My opponent just doesn't have enough damage, and I can't miss.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned because my magic monsters couldn't miss. I do feel that my opponent misplayed, though, because his lineup didn't make sense. It's not like the ruleset is going to benefit outlasting the opponent, as there is no poison or earthquake so I just felt that his lineup was wrong. It's always nice to see new rulesets and try to figure out a good strategy for them.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I use these combinations most times in frontier as well, the win rate is almost 100%🤗.And I really admire how Alasgodil the tank, with its shield 🛡️ ability performs.Allowing the magic attack duo of saltwater mage and Mystic Scaleweaver to take out opponents units. Kudos
