Splinterlands: Mantaroth is a great damage dealer when paired with Flank
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because of Mantaroth.
Featured cards

Mantaroth is a neutral splinter that costs 11 mana. It starts with shield and armored strike. Leveling this card gives this card true strike at level 2, repair at level 3, and blast at level 4. This card is very powerful, and I like using this card as both a tank and damage dealer. The armored strike adds more damage while the shield keeps this card alive. I only have this card at level 1 so I can't gain access to the other abilities.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Counterspell. This means that all monsters gain the magic reflect ability. There is also 30 mana available, and I can use fire, water, life, or dragon splinter.
This ruleset is interesting, but magic monsters are less effective due to the magic reflect from the ruleset.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Avina of the Wolf | 5 | Summoner | +2 speed or heal |
| Silverblade Fighter | 6 | 1st | Flank and Void Armor |
| Mantaroth | 11 | 2nd | Shield and Armored Strike |
| Albahoo Forester | 2 | 3rd | Return Fire |
| Meriput Magician | 5 | 4th | Tank Heal |
| Frigid Wolf | 1 | 5th | Charge |
| Total Mana: | 30 |
My summoner is Avina of the Wolf for the heal. My tank is Silverblade Fighter with Flank and Void Armor. My backup tank is Mantaroth with shield and armored strike. Then I have Albahoo Forester with return fire and Meriput Magician with tank heal. Frigid Wolf is my last monster with charge.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while my opponent kills himself. Silverblade Fighter is used primarily for the flank. Using it, Mantaroth can attack from the second slot, and it is less likely to have its armor removed early on. This means that it will deal more damage. The rest of my lineup is to keep my lineup alive and support Mantaroth. Meriput is a magic monster but it has decent health and I think that the tank heal makes up for it.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is to my advantage. My opponent has a monster with burn, so it will damage his backline over time. At the same time, the combination of tank heal and heal from Avina will keep Mantaroth alive for a long time.
Round 4

A few rounds later, my opponent is down to just one monster, and this is my win. My opponent's last monster is burned, and he can't outdamage Mantaroth's heals.

I won that match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. Flank and Mantaroth make for a great combination as Mantaroth can deal as much damage as possible from the second spot. This allowed me to kill off my opponent as fast as possible, while my opponent had multiple monsters that could not attack from their starting position.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I think the heal in your summoner and the armor strike of mantharoth was actually very integral.
Mantaroth is a good frontline and damage dealer unit for the team

The Flank ability from Silverblade Fighter is well utilized on this match
Using Mantaroth in second position with Flank support is strong. Shield + Armored Strike already makes it efficient at level 1, and protecting that armor early lets it hit at full value longer.
