Splinterlands: Junior Varsity and Speed
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a battle where my opponent made a mistake with his lineup.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Junior Varsity and Holy Protection. This means that only monsters with a mana cost of 6 or lower can be used, and all monsters gain the divine shield skill. There is also 40 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth, life, and death.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barthalamas | 6 | Summoner | +1 speed |
| Scales of Justice | 5 | 1st | Dodge |
| Chaos Furybringer | 6 | 2nd | Reach |
| Ember Roast Sow | 4 | 3rd | Sneak |
| Kanaaq Miner | 5 | 4th | Sneak |
| Echelon | 4 | 5th | Opportunity |
| Ash Archer | 5 | 6th | |
| Total Mana: | 35 |
My summoner is Barthalamas for the +1 speed. I have Scales of Justice as my tank with dodge. After that is Chaos Furybringer as a backup tank with reach. I have my sneak and opportunity monsters after with a ranged monster in the last spot.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Scalees is a great tank due to its stats, and the dodge will also allow it to avoid some physical attacks. After that, my lineup is purely focused on damage even though my damage is a bit spread out.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent only has 1 magic monster, and my lineup is faster than my opponent. With this, my damage should do quite well as my opponent's first few monsters all have low health.
Round 6

A few round later, my opponent is down to 1 monster while I have 5 left. There is no chance my opponent can win because my opponent can't eveen attack anymore

I won later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. My fast monsters made quick work of my opponent, and splitting my damage didn't hurt me much because those sneak monsters took out that magic monster in the back. Junior Varsity lowers down your choices, but speed is never a bad choice.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

The Junior Varsity ruleset makes the team options very limited
