Splinterlands Engagement Challenge: Moments That Made You a Better Player

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge that can be found in this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to learn about the game. In this week's challenge, I talk about a moment that made me a better player
Moments That Made You a Better Player
The challenge topic is to talk about a moment that made me a better player. For this, there are a few different points, but I truly think that the first moment that I started to understand the game was at a specific point early on in my Splinterlands journey. One thing that people need to do at the start of their journey is to learn how to create a good lineup. When I first started, that was hard because there was nothing like Frontier or Modern formats, where the cards were limited. Instead, every single battle allowed the use of every single card until I found out about Tournaments.
What are Tournaments?

Tournaments can be found in the upper left corner under the dropdown menu of Play. If you look above, you can see the upcoming tournaments that you can enter, the entry fee (some of them require it), what the rules are, and the prizes associated with each one.

If you press the view button under a tournament, you can see more information about it. You can see the exact prizes that you win depending on your ranking.

The upper right corner of this info shows the rules. The level cap is bronze (level 1 cards), and you can only use Conclave, Rebellion, or Foundation cards. This makes it simple because even new players won't have a heavy disadvantage due to that level cap. This was the exact reason why I think tournaments were such a great thing in Splinterlands. It evens the playing field, and you get to learn what cards work well together. Back when I was playing, I was playing in the Untamed tournaments because I did not have alpha and beta cards.
Should you do tournaments now?
I think that tournaments were necessary in the past, but not necessary right now to learn the game. Splinterlands has done quite a few things to teach players the game, such as Campaigns, and there are different ranked battle modes. That did not exist in the past. The current Frontier and Modern limit the cards used, but it does not impose any level cap on users. So, while it is not a complete substitute, I do think it is good enough because most of your opponents would not have maxed-level cards at those lower leagues. It was my turning point, and I truly believe that participating in tournaments made me a better player.
Conclusion and thoughts
Overall, I think that the best moment when I became a better player was in tournaments. They were necessary when I first started due to the level disadvantage, and they imposed a level cap on monsters. I do not think they are necessary for a newer player due to the more recent additions to the game, such as different game modes and campaigns. However, if you play a lot, and you are able to use up all your energy in the modes you can play, then I suggest doing tournaments, as it would not cut into your energy. I still think it is a great place to learn if you have the time available. Just make sure to look into the information to be sure that you have the right cards, and the playing format.

I like how you reflected on your own journey , it shows how important structured competition used to be.
Yes, it's an easier way to understand the game when things are limited.
