Splinterlands Engagement Challenge: Battlefield Breakthroughs! New Beluroc Aegis and Collateral Damage

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge that can be found in this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to learn about the game. In this week's challenge, we talk about a good battle with New Beluroc Aegis under the Collateral Damage ruleset.

New Beluroc Aegis is a neutral splinter that costs 8 mana. This splinter starts with the taunt ability. Leveling up this card only increases the stats of this monster. I use this monster quite often in Frontier because taunt makes it a very good monster to use. It is able to soak up quite a bit of damage.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is Up to Eleven and Collateral Damage. This means that counter damage is increased, and all monsters gain reckless (damage to adjacent units). There is also 29 mana available, and I can use all splinter.

Total Mana:29

I use Aurelia as my summoner because of the +1 health. Dread Tafarian is my tank with heal. After that is New Beluroc Aegis with taunt to collect the extra damage. Last is Glimmermancer as a magic damage dealer.

My strategy is to outlast my opponent. To do so, I am using New Beluroc Aegis with taunt as my middle monster because it will take the damage from reckless. This lets my two other monsters live longer. Dread Tafarian is a staple choice as a monster because the heal can recover some of the extra damage that my monsters take. The last magic monster is just a filler to deal some damage.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have advantage in this fight. My magic damage might not help as much because of the void monster, but it is built to outlast my opponent. Both the range and magic monster in my opponent's backline will have to kill off my taunt monster first. This lets me deal damage with my monster and reckless before relying on Dread Tafarian to outlast my opponent.

Round 3

round 3.png
I am down to just one monster left, but I think this match is my win. My heal will outlast my opponent. In the best case, I will land a hit and the magic monster. However, if it doesn't, then the ranged monster will die from the collateral damage. My opponent just doesn't have enough damage to kill me before the heal takes into effect.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds later as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time did play out as I expected. I had Dread Tafarian as my main tank to outlast my opponent, and New Beluroc Aegis was my middle monster because of that taunt. This let me focus all the damage from the collateral damage that my monsters die onto my taunt monster. It also tanked all the damage from the monsters on my opponent's side. While all of this happening, my opponent is slowly killing off all his monsters due to the collateral damage. By keeping my Dread Tafarian alive by using Beluroc Aegis, I won this match without any issues. It let me outlast my opponent, and I feel that this strategy is great in collateral damage rulesets. New Beluroc Aegis can't attack, and it won't hurt my monsters through collateral damage.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

My tank had more health, but I think it was even on both sides because my opponent had life leech.
