Splinterlands: Demented Shark is great in Melee Mayhem

avatar

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Demented Shark.

Featured cards

Demented Shark is a water splinter that costs 6 mana. It starts with inspire. Leveling this card gives this card thorns at level 6. This is a card that I can only use in Brawls, but I do think it's very useful. When I can, I use this along with melee monsters for more damage.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The rulesets this time are Back to the Melee Mayhem, Stampede, and Counterspell. This means that all melee monsters can attack from anywhere, monsters with trample continue until they fail to kill a monster, and all monsters gain the magic reflect ability. There is also 51 mana available, and I can use fire, earth, water, life, or dragon splinter.

This ruleset is interesting because of how melee monsters can be so useful or powerful in this match. Also, magic monsters are suffering from a disadvantage.

Total Mana:48

My summoner is Kelya Frendulfor the +1 armor. My tank is Alva the Crusher with shield and bloodlust. My backup tank is Diemonshark. Demented Shark is my 3rd monster with Inspire, followed by Coastal Sentry with Double Strike. Disintegrator has demoralize, and Swamp Spitter has repair.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while I deal as much damage as possible. Alva the Crusher is my tank because that shield will keep it alive from all the melee monsters. I also have repair in the back to heal up that armor. Demented Shark increases my melee damage, and Coastal Sentry has double strike, so it can attack twice, and the rest of my monsters can also attack.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match is to my advantage. My opponent did not use Keyla but opted for more gladiators. I can still lose if I miss too many attacks, though. I can still lose if I miss too many attacks, but I am not at a disadvantage due to level.

Round 4

round 4.png
A few rounds later, my opponent is left down to 2 monsters while I still have all of mine. The demoralize, shield, and repair did a great job of keeping my monsters alive. At the same time, inspire increased my damage and allowed me to wipe out the monsters quickly.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. My lineup was just superior to my opponent's with all the demoralize, repair, and inspire. This increased my damage while keeping my monsters alive. It's important to consider how your abilities work with the rest of your lineup. I still think the biggest benefit was the inspire killing off monstrs because some of those bloodlust monsters can be deadly.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
