Splinterlands: Briar Patch and magic monsters
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a battle where my magic monsters dominated due to the Briar Patch ruleset.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Briar Patch and Super Sneak. This means all monsters gain the thorns ability, and melee monsters also gain the sneak ability. There is also 50 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for fire, death, or dragon.
The combination of the rulesets makes it such that melee monsters are at a huge disadvantage. They will take counter damage, and they can also attack from any position.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic |
| Asel Alagosdil | 4 | 1st | Divine Shield |
| Lunaki Howler | 7 | 2nd | |
| Saltwater Mage | 8 | 3rd | Sneak |
| Water-Logged Wizard | 6 | 4th | |
| Mystic Scaleweaver | 9 | 5th | Slow |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 6th | Taunt |
| Total Mana: | 48 |
My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank is Asel Alagosdil with divine shield. After that is my 4 magic monsters, followed by a taunt monster.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while I deal as much damage as possible. I am using magic monsters because of the damage when it is boosted by my archon. I have one melee monster because it has taunt. It might take some counter damage, but it will also be one of the first monsters to die.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is to my advantage. My opponent has 3 melee monsters so the counter damage will add up over time. Once those melee monsters are dead, I just need to deeal with the ranged monsters. I just have to survive long enough.
Round 4

A few rounds later, my opponent is left down to 1 monster while I still have 3 of mine. My opponent can't attack so it is my win.

I won that match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned because my magic monsters didn't take counter damage, and I took advantage of the ruleset. My opponent on the otherhand used too many melee monsters and once those monsters died, his ranged monsters were left vunerable.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

All I can say is that, your opponent tried putting up a good fight. But in situation like this, Saltwater mage and Mystic Scaleweaver are so handful and they are the real damage dealers.Kudos
Both of those magic monsters are great in Frontier. Their damage really adds up.

I also always pick the water summoner when there is the thorn ruleset
Yea. It's the easiest choice when you also get +1 magic damage too.
It is a great strategy to field in magic damage monsters if the Briar Patch is present in the match
