Splinterlands: Black Window is a great card in Frontier
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Black Widow.
Featured cards

Black Widow is a death splinter that costs 8 mana. This splinter starts with no ability. Leveling up this card gives it higher stats and the poison ability at level 5. This is a great damage dealer in the Death Splinter for Frontier, and it is also quite tanky.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Rise of the Commons and Briar Patch. This means that all monsters gain the thorns ability, and only common/rare monsters can be used. There is also 25 mana available, and I can use life, death, or dragon splinter.
It's an interesting match because there are very few common/rare magic monsters, so the fight will revolve around ranged monsters, and melee monsters are a disadvantage.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thalgrimore | 6 | Summoner | -1 Health |
| Nim Guard Captain | 7 | 1st | Void |
| Black Widow | 8 | 2nd | |
| Grand Consul Minion | 4 | 3rd | |
| Total Mana: | 25 |
My summoner is Thalgrimore for its -2 health. My tank is Nim Guard Captain, even though it is a melee monster due to its high armor. It should last a while and give Black Widow a higher chance of attacking. My last monster is Grand Consul Minion.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my ranged monsters alive so I can deal more damage. Black Window works out well due to its high stats, so it should give me some higher odds.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this fight. My opponent has two melee monsters, so they will take counter damage, and my black widow should be able to stay alive once those melee monsters die. I don't think there is a way for my opponent to deal enough damage to my Black Widow.
Round 5

Both my opponent and I are down to just one monster left. They are both ranged monsters, so this is my win due to the higher health on my monster. Since we are left with just ranged monsters, and they can't attack, this match will go into fatigue (overtime), where monsters take increased damage every turn.

I won later when the match moved into fatigue.
Conclusion
The battle this time did not go as I planned because I was not expecting that opportunity monster to kill off my other ranged monster. This caused the match to go into fatigue, but I still won because I had the tankier monster. Melee monsters come at such a huge disadvantage so I am not sure why my opponent decided to use two of them.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
