Falcom Music Channel (Fan-Run Youtube Channel) has been teriminated

I have always been a huge fan of Falcom's music for quite a while because the Trails (Kiseki) series is my favorite game series. One of the things that I like the most about the games is their music, and tracks like Silver Will. They have been fairly generous with people's usage of their music, and you can use it as background tracks in videos or places without any issues. The gray area has always been the ripping of music and putting it online for anyone to use. Recently, the largest archive of Falcom's music was taken down by Falcom, but I feel sad that this happened, even though Falcom had every right to do so.

What was the Falcom Music Channel?

The Falcom Music Channel was a fan-run archive of all the video game music for all the games released by Falcom, and it has always been the most accessible place to access the soundtracks. This channel was not monetized, and they actively tried to attribute the tracks to their composers. It includes music tracks from PC games when they were CDs back in the 80s. It has over 1,000 music tracks, including various different arrangements or versions, and some of the most popular tracks had millions of views.

According to Kiseki Nut, he summarized the situation the best. The Falcom Music channel included day 1 BGM rips, and it was within Falcom's right to do so to shut things down. There is a separate archive channel being set up here, but it's in the early stages.

This archive channel were given 3 things:

• Moderation of the comment zones (probably regarding people trashing Singa)
• No BGM rips and recent soundtracks
• No crediting composers and crediting it to the Falcom Sound Team JDK

I have been through the comment sections, and Singa does get a ton of hate. I do prefer Jindo's tracks, and there were quite a few tracks of Singa's that I did not like as much. However, I don't think Singa's tracks are horrible. I can understand no BGM rips and recent as that might affect revenue of song sales when they first get released, but they need to put up the tracks sooner rather than delaying things. As for the crediting to composers, I prefer to know who made it, but I prefer just having the ability to listen to the track more. I believe this is more in regard to a period of time when a few members quit, and they started outsourcing tracks. I know about the incident but not in that much detail.

Why do I care?

Personally, my own playlists of music had plenty of tracks from the channel there. It kind of messed up things there, but it was also the catalyst that got me back into the Trials series to the point where I believe it is the number 1 RPG series in terms of story. My first time playing a Falcom game was back when the PSP was active, and I played Trials in the Sky First Chapter. It was an amazing game, but I moved on without knowing that there were more games in the series, as they were not out yet. Even now, I remember how amazing it was to listen to Silver Will towards the end of the game. It was only years later when I heard tracks like Blue Destination and Inevitable Struggle that I was interested in playing the rest of the series.

I also used their videos when I made some Rising Star posts on Hive, and talked about some of the soundtracks that I liked. I found a few different tracks to highlight some of my favorite tracks so you can give their music a try.

Conclusion

It's sad to see this channel go, as it was one of the reasons why I gave the rest of the Trials series a go, and later on played the Ys series too. It was fully within Falcom's rights even if I feel a bit salty.
