Mother's Day is always a special time in our family, a day where we slow down and truly appreciate the love and dedication that mothers bring into our lives. Since I am also a mother now, my husband never fails to surprise me. He had already told our 3-year-old daughter to greet me when I woke up. Our little princess’ smile was vibrant and adorable as she showered me with kisses and hugged me so tight, saying, “Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom in the whole world!” My heart melted when she told me that, and of course, my husband did the same thing. They’re the most precious gifts in my life. For my mom, we surprised her with flowers and a cake and took her out for dinner, together with Zadie’s yaya, who has been with us for almost four years now since the birth of our daughter.

We went out to have dinner just a few minutes away from our home. It’s a newly opened restaurant called La Vie by the Sea. They don’t accept reservations since it’s a peak day, so we decided to go to the place earlier to enjoy the sunset and the view. I wanted Zadie to enjoy playing with her bubbles while we watched the sunset. The restaurant is still in its soft opening, so the menu is a bit limited. We wanted to have coffee before dinner, but they didn’t have any. Instead, we ordered food because customers were slowly starting to crowd in. Just in time, our food was served, and we had a good dinner.

Mother's Day doesn’t have to be elaborate to be special. Our simple celebration was filled with love, gratitude, and togetherness. Spending the day with my daughter Zadie, husband, mother, and Zadie’s yaya reminded me of what truly matters: the love we share and the moments we create together.

As I tucked my daughter into bed that night, she whispered, “This was the best day ever, Mommy.” And I couldn’t agree more. It was a day to remember, not for any grand gestures, but for the simple, heartfelt moments that made us all feel so loved and appreciated.

Here's to many more simple yet extraordinary Mother's Days!
