Price Wars: Supermarkets, Street Vendors & Fast Food Milks Your Wallet Dry

Mostly business are suppose to work according to laws that ensures costumers aren't being exploited by businesses but still somehow they find loophole

to exploit their customers and it happens mostly on the streets where your local market is and how the scam goes on over the time without getting fined is something I'm still surprised.

Like there's a price range on products sometimes decided by the company selling the product and some product like chicken, veggies prices are mostly decided by government.

Like there's a cap and you're supposed to sell those products for that price range and it goes up and down everyday.

The price arbitrage in the local market

Whenever I go to my local market I don't just buy from the first shop but I go down the market and find the possible arbitrage that's existing everywhere

We have supermarket here and there's another supermarket, both are each other competitors and suppose

I need chicken I'll walk by the both of supermarket that are like in the same street

One is selling one kg chicken for 480 rupees and the other one is selling for 520 rupees as of today, I bought some from the supermarket that's selling for 480 because I'm not gonna pay 40rs extra for the same quality and quantity of chicken.

I do this every time while buying dairy products and veggies all it takes is to visit different food stalls and places, get the best deal for yourself.

The big business works like mafia

I've worked in fast food field for over a year and I can tell how they're making money is entirely based on hype and "brand".

Let's say KFC here is selling a bottle of water for 150 rupees

Meanwhile McDonald's will be selling the water bottle for 70 rupees.

The difference is way too big, same with the price of burger, fries and everything but mostly fast food restaurant make bank through the drinks.

You don't believe me? Let me tell you they purchase 1 water bottle for 7 rupees through the company they have contract with

I was doing inventory where I added price of each and everything

The most profit margin they were making from was drinks. 1 water bottle cost them 7 rupees meanwhile selling for 150 rupees and manager and everywhere were like yea the drinks alone are enough to pay all of our salaries.

Let's not talk about the burgers, fries and tons of other things being sold everyday.

they should be held accountable

The price is mostly being inflated by these brands, they'll open their shop in the town and going to sell at those "prices" they set for themselves.

Mostly rich one's visit there everyday and they don't mind paying for all that

But I've seen look of people when I'll be like "150 for the water" which they can get for just 50rs if they walk outside the restaurant and get from the shop.

That's how they're making profits, the bigger the brand is, the more easily you're going to get milked by them and trust me it doesn't go to waiter, or the rest of staff

The money goes to shareholders, CEO, CFO and all those on the top positions. I quit mine when they increased salary of staff by 5% while increased management salary by 20%.

In the end I wonder if businesses works the same way in your side of the world. Do share it I. the comments.

that's all folks.

Wow, what you’re saying makes total sense! Here, there’s also a big price difference between local markets and big chains, and the insane profit margin on drinks and cheap items is shocking. In the end, it seems like the real winners are the owners and investors, while the hardworking staff get way less.
