Real Madrid players Dean Huijsen, Arda Güler, and Franco Mastantuono are also among the 25 nominees for the prestigious 'Tuttosport' award.
Having already awarded the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d'Or ceremony on September 22, the other major prize for players under 21 remains to be won: the Tuttosport Golden Boy. This Wednesday, the Italian newspaper published the list of 25 names vying for the award. Among the finalists are three Real Madrid players: Huijsen, Güler, and Mastantuono, while only one from Barça, Pau Cubarsí.
Although the favorite to become the best player under 21 in December is Désiré Doué, the PSG winger who won the treble, Cubarsí is looking to become the fourth Barça player to win the Golden Boy in five years.
Fully established as a starter in Barça's defense (56 appearances last season), the 18-year-old will look to follow in the footsteps of teammates Pedri in 2021, Gavi in 2022, and Lamine himself in 2024. Despite having a national treble under his belt and being one of the visible faces of Hansi Flick's risky forward line, his position as a center back limits his possibilities.
For its part, Real Madrid has placed three players among the 25 nominees, despite the fact that two of them did not play for the Merengue team last season. These are Franco Mastantuono, signed for approximately €63 million from River Plate, and Dean Huijsen, acquired from Premier League side Bournemouth for approximately €60 million.
Arda Güler, who did wear the white jersey last season, is currently enjoying his best form since arriving at the Bernabéu from Fenerbahçe. The Turkish player has fully established himself in Xabi Alonso's starting lineup and has already scored three goals and assisted four times in all competitions at this point in the season.
