Espero que se encuentren bien y felices. Yo por mi parte estoy feliz de volver a esta maravillosa comunidad y más de la mano de las iniciativas de @damarysvibra sobre quienes somos y cómo influye todo a nuestro alrededor en nosotros. Con este tema dude sobre participar, ya que he leído bastantes libros pero no podía decidirme acerca de cuál en serio tocó mis fibras y me dejara algo importante para contarles.

Hasta que recordé al libro que si me “toco” las fibras y fue porque mi mamá me lo lanzó. Este es el “plow twist” de la historia. Tenía 12 años y le dije que estaba muy aburrida y ella me lanzó un libro, literal me pego en la cabeza pero les aseguro que no tenía intención de darme, sino que más bien cayera en la cama que era donde yo estaba sentada, pero bueno, eso me abrió el entendimiento un poco y también el camino hacia las novelas románticas.

Este libro llamado “Encuentro decisivo” era una novela romántica de Danielle Steel. Para quienes no la conocen, es como una Corin Tellado pero de habla inglesa. Porque sí, también me leía las novelas cortas de Corín Tellado que venían en las revistas Vanidades. El detalle es que nunca había leído una novela larga por placer y esa fue la primera.

La historia iba de una periodista y un cardiocirujano que se enamoran y todo lo que conlleva su relación entre Los Ángeles (si no me equivoco) y Nueva York. Ambos con hijos ya adolescentes y como por su amor ponen todo de cabeza. Quisiera decir que tiene la dosis justa de drama, pero no, tiene bastante drama y fue un buen inicio. Lo he releído unas cuantas veces y sin duda, influyó en mi para iniciar mi vida como lectora, con el aprendí que me gusta el romance y un poco de drama.

Luego llegó a mi “Pétalos al viento”, el libro que le sigue a “Flores en el Ático” de V. C. Andrews. Si lo has leído antes sabes que fue un cambio brusco. Y sabrás cuántas veces quise golpear a Catherine, porque aquí el drama es lo que reina. V. C. Andrews sabía bien manejar el drama y las calamidades familiares en sus novelas. Muchas de ellas con historias un tanto bizarras y con demasiadas desgracias. Aquí no predomina el romance sino el drama.

Esas fueron las primeras novelas que leí y que abrieron mi “apetito lector”. A partir de ahí siempre buscaba que leer y de preferencia que fueran novelas románticas, porque era lo que me hacía sentir bien. La lectura puede ser un excelente refugio y también un buen sitio para viajar y conocer otros mundos. Quisiera decirles que leo de todo, pero les mentiría. Me cuesta leer fantasía y no puedo con el terror ni suspenso, tiendo a ser muy gráfica y me pasa como cuando leí “el relato de un náufrago” que sentía que la que se ahogaba era yo.

I hope you are well and happy. I for one am happy to be back in this wonderful community and even more so with @damarysvibra's initiatives about who we are and how everything around us influences us. With this topic I hesitated to participate, since I have read quite a few books but I couldn't decide which one really touched my heartstrings and left me with something important to tell you.

Until I remembered the book that did “touch” my heartstrings and it was because my mom pitched it to me. This is the “plow twist” of the story. I was 12 years old and I told her that I was very bored and she threw a book at me, it literally hit me on the head but I assure you that she had no intention of hitting me, but rather that it would fall on the bed where I was sitting, but well, that opened my understanding a little and also the way to romance novels.

This book called “Decisive Encounter” was a romance novel by Danielle Steel. For those who don't know her, she's like a Corin Tellado but English speaking. Because yes, I also used to read the short Corin Tellado novels that came in Vanidades magazines. The detail is that I had never read a long novel for pleasure and that was the first one.

The story was about a journalist and a heart surgeon who fall in love and all that goes with their relationship between Los Angeles (if I'm not mistaken) and New York. Both with teenage children and how they turn everything upside down for their love. I'd like to say it has just the right amount of drama, but no, it has plenty of drama and it was a good start. I've reread it a few times and it certainly influenced me to start my reading life, I learned from it that I like romance and a little drama.

Then came to me “Petals in the Wind”, the book that follows “Flowers in the Attic” by V. C. Andrews. If you've read it before you know it was a jarring change. And you'll know how many times I wanted to punch Catherine, because here drama reigns supreme. V. C. C. Andrews knew how to handle drama and family calamities well in her novels. Many of them with somewhat bizarre stories and too many misfortunes. Here it is not the romance that predominates but the drama.

Those were the first novels I read that whetted my “reading appetite”. From then on I was always looking for something to read, preferably romance novels, because that's what made me feel good. Reading can be an excellent refuge and also a good place to travel and get to know other worlds. I would like to tell you that I read everything, but I would be lying. It's hard for me to read fantasy and I can't read horror or suspense, I tend to be very graphic and it's like when I read “The Shipwrecked Man's Tale” I felt like I was the one who was drowning.
