My Brave Ancestors
As I look out eastward over the Atlantic and ponder the vastness of the ocean, it makes me wonder just how awful Europe must have been in the 18th century. What do I mean? In the late 1700s one of my ancestors, a Brethren minister, left Hesse for Pennsylvania; another left France for the Carolinas. They chose a voyage on a ship across dangerous waters over staying in Europe.
We their descendants have been greatly blessed by their decision over 2 centuries ago, but I can't imagine how desperate or crazy I would have to be to take a similar ship across the Atlantic.
I plan to stay in America and fight for my freedom till my last breath. I won't give up on the place my brave ancestors chose for me long before I was born.
