THE PRICE OF LIFE EVERLASTING: WOULD YOU BUY IT?

As we all know, the world is not an eternal spring. Flowers do fade, people often die, everything deteriorates and is soon forgotten. However, if the ability to live forever, to become immortal, could be bought, would we purchase it? Yes, I would. But in what sense?

Immortality, according to Oxford Dictionary, is the ability to live forever. It is obvious that in our world today, many people are afraid to die. Therefore, there is hardly a person who would not have thought about how it would be to live eternally.

We all have dreams, goals, aspirations, purpose not yet fulfilled, and things not yet achieved. Death would only stand as a hindrance to these accomplishments, so we think. For this reason, many would choose to be immortal.

Personally, I would not like to live forever, but I definitely want to live forever. What then does living suggest?

Living forever in our mortal bodies is more likely to probe dangerous problems than is expected. While immortality might prevent death, it would not necessarily prevent aging. Witnessing our bodies lose youthful strength and beauty while we continue in the endless circle of living might not be pleasurable.

Also, a social problem of not dying and living forever is connected with population growth. If people do not die, the population growth would be much higher than it is today and this will obviously result in food supply problems and housing problems.

Thus, immortality, in my view, is to make a lasting impact. Dedicating oneself to addressing global challenges and making significant contributions to society is synonymous with immortality. Inspiring positive change through one's work, actions and behaviour is to live forever.

Living forever does not necessarily suggest having supernatural powers over death, but having the power to control the world even after death. Legendaries, such as William Shakespeare, Julius Berger, Nelson Mandela, John Keats, and many others, who had died, are still being remembered till today due to their brave, inspiring and long-lasting impact.

Therefore, if immortality could be purchased, I would buy it. Not in the sense of not witnessing death, but in the aspect of creating an everlasting me in my works, actions, behaviours, and in the world at large.

In all, to purchase immortality is to provide a sense of purpose and meaning in which your generation and future generations can explore their interests and discover their true potential.
