Prayer: The Small Moment of Joy That Grounds my Day

In a world where everything moves quickly, where we’re often chasing deadlines, navigating noise, and trying to keep up, it’s easy to overlook the small, quiet moments that offer real joy. For me, there is one simple ritual that brings an unexpected calm and warmth to my day. It’s not dramatic or social media worthy, but it holds a meaning far deeper than its simplicity suggests.

There is a kind of stillness I can't find anywhere else but in prayer. At 4.am, before the noise of the world begins, my prayer holds a quiet power that shapes how I think, feel, and move through whatever lies ahead. It is a space where I show up sometimes with gratitude, sometimes with fear, and sometimes laying off my burdens before God.

At this time, I do not often stay long in prayers. Most times it is a ritual I observe in my bed between a period of ten to fifteen minutes, but it gives me great joy. It softens my anxiety, renews my hope, and keeps my heart steady as I journey through the day.

I remember the day I wanted to write a particular exam. As a result of the words I've heard from my seniors, I became so fearful. They said students usually fail the course because of the lecturers in charge. Although I read, my mind could not let go of fear.

So, on the day of the exam, I said a short prayer very early in the morning asking God to help me. Guess what, all the exam questions were taken from the exact pages I read in the textbook. I was filled with unexplainable joy that day. Also, when the results were out, a lot of students failed but I had an A. This is why I can't take the place of prayer for granted.

There was also another day when I needed money for a particular assignment. The deadline was close, but I haven't started. I was heartbroken. But, on a fateful day, after praying as usual, I felt peace within me, like something telling me not to worry. That day was on a Sunday. I went to church and someone gave me money in a brown envelope. The exact money I needed for the assignment. It was an amazing experience I can never forget.

Although some people might underestimate the place of prayer because they find joy in other things, my prayer time is what gives me joy to carry on with the day. It often comes with a quiet assurance and inner peace that greatly anchors my day. It makes me feel lighter, rather than overwhelmed, as I manage through the day.

For me, prayer is less about perfect words and more about presence. Feeling God's presence and gentle reminder of, “You're not alone” breeds joy. A kind of joy that isn't loud. It stays within, quiet and deep, not requiring an audience or applause. The joy that recharges me from within and influences all aspects of my day and life.

Prayer is that which also gives me fulfilment and joy within. Honestly, it doesn't feel alright for me till that prayer is said, especially in the morning. Maybe just a few minutes, but in faith and believe, it goes a long way already.
