NIFEMI AJAYI: THE INDEPENDENT AND CONTENT CHARACTER - CONTEST #244

Hello ladies. It's obviously not a new thing to see people watch movies or read books. We, especially females, do this a lot. Well, I'm not a movie freak, but I'm a bookworm. I love reading books.

So, I'm going to tell you about my favourite character in one of the best books I've read. This character’s name is Nifemi Ajayi, and I read her in a book titled: Love Happens Eventually by Feyi Aina.

I call Nifemi Ajayi an independent and content character because from the beginning of the story, she is clear on her priorities. But, before I continue, I'll like to share a summary of the book.

Love Happens Eventually by Feyi Aina tells the story of a Nigerian lady named Nifemi Ajayi who is single but not searching, and whose siblings are all married. Nifemi doesn't like children and believes that she won't get married even as she nears the age of forty. Although she is under pressure to find a man of her own, her least favourite discussion is that of marriage due to her experience with past relationships.

But, as the story proceeds, Nifemi meets Dr Esosa in the hospital where her younger sister was taken after she trips at a wedding event. Esosa and Nifemi begin their beautiful relationship until Esosa displays indiscipline by making out with Nifemi's uncle's girlfriend. After realising that Esosa never loved her genuinely, Nifemi broke up with Esosa

The death of Nifemi's grandfather reveals a deep secret about Toba whom Nifemi has always thought to be her cousin, and on the long run, Toba and Nifemi both develop feelings for eachother. Toba eventually proposes to her, and this surprise proposal led to serious questionings and discussions as to whether Nifemi would marry him or not.

As I said earlier, Nifemi is clear on her priorities. She is single, not searching, and not expecting to ever get married. I know this might sound weird and crazy to most females, but I love the fact that Nifemi is confident in the assertion of her own values and desires.

Also, her independence is core to her identity. She is established in her career, lives life on her terms, and firmly resists societal pressure to get married. She is intentionally single and sufficient and not desperate to be in a relationship.

Nifemi has a meticulous checklist for a partner. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't. Although all her younger siblings are all married, she doesn't feel pressured or frustrated.

One thing I also admire in Nifemi is her emotional maturity. She's quite close with Toba thinking he is her cousin. However, the death of Nifemi’s grandfather reveals the truth about Toba’s true identity. During the family meeting, even as she grapples with shock, she holds firm to herself. Unlike Uncle Gbenga who keeps on shouting, cursing and hating Toba, Nifemi maintains a healthy relationship with Toba.

The character of Nifemi Ajayi is one that inspires me a lot. She chooses her path not out of fear, but to show that she's deliberate and self-determined.

We females should not be drawn by fear of not being good enough, or by pressures from all circles of life. We should stay confident, knowing what we want and what we don't. We should also be strong enough to reassess ourselves and reassure ourselves that true love will find us at the right time.

If a man doesn't value you, he definitely does not love you. Therefore, set your standards and be guided by self-respect and authenticity, and not by anyone's expectations.

I'm so happy I read Love Happens Eventually by Feyi Aina. I would also love it if you all can get a copy and read.
