Children likes promises not only children adult also likes promises because they are all someone's child, as a matter of fact nobody likes disappointment in this life, promises is something we can't joke with, it is been held at high esteem, once your promise as a parents is been let out as a parents to your children the next is expectations from them.

Promising and never fulfilling is a huge crime to children, it can lead them to hate you as parents it can make them not to trust anything you said to them, then doubt comes in and once your children starts doubting you have lost there trust and it's going to be difficult to gain because you have done it to them not once not twice but constantly they won't be opened up to you any more as a parents rather they open up for outsiders, infact know that you will loose your children to outsiders you will be left out in there affairs. Children are always dependent on there parents to solve there needs but In the situation by which you will promise them as a parents and fail to do it they widraw there attachment from there parents, if you must break your promise to them you must have an explanation or a reason why. Explain to your children how the situation is i believe they will understand you and not detest you.
