Shaped by Clay: Becoming a Creator in 30 Days

Imagine having the opportunity to acquire a new skill in just 30 days, with all the resources and support you need. What skill would you choose to master in such a short span? I thought of this question continuously, and something amazing entered into my heart.

Why not be like the creator

We all know how different stories and books talk about God being the creator of the world and forming everything with his hands and word. Now, this made me think of the skill that is the easiest yet most difficult skill. I would go for the potter skill. The reason I would choose this skill is that it's something I can do with my hands.

You might be wondering what a potter is, or what kind of job they do. At the ending of this blog, I am sure I might be able to change your mind into becoming a potter too.

A potter is an person who creates objects, typically functional or decorative items, from clay using techniques like shaping, molding, and manipulating the material. They utilize a variety of resources including different types of clay, tools like pottery wheels and kilns, and various glazes and decorative elements. Now tell me, doesn't this look like the job of God.

One thing about being a potter is that you can be creative in your own way and can build anything, in as much your mind is working and you have the ability to create it.

Pottery is not just about forming objects; it is about putting a part of yourself into what you’re making. Every curve, every smooth surface, every imprint tells a story. And if you mess it up, you can always start again. I mean, you can even break it down and rebuild something amazing and it will come out so beautiful and better. There’s something so comforting about that, the idea that mistakes can be reshaped.

I believe one month is enough to start the journey. I may not be the perfect potter after 30 days, but I know I would have learned the foundation of turning something ordinary into something meaningful. Besides, practice make perfect, so in as much I have the foundation, getting better at it would only be a matter of time because what pottery needs the most is the creative mind to picture it. And just like God shaped man from clay, I too can shape beauty from dust.

So if you ask me again what skill I would learn within a month, I would still say pottery, not just because of what I can make, but because of who I can become while making it. You can feel me too right, I told you at the beginning that I might change your mind before the ending. Who knows? Maybe within a month, you’ll become a creator too, you might even have the best creative mind.

So tell me, will you also join me on this journey, let's walk together on this.

Thanks for reading. My name is Fashtioluwa.
