Does Apology Videos Hold Any Weight?
Good morning, amazing readers, It's a beautiful day here in Nigeria, and the discussion for this morning is quite an interesting one that I have been seeing on social media.
Today, we will be discussing apology videos. These days, there are people who do some pretty scandalous things, and then these people simply come online and make apology videos.
Now the question is, what are my thoughts about it? How can I tell if the person is genuine or not? What other measures can be used in this day and age? I will share my opinion with you, and you can share yours with me afterward.
During this conversation I will be having with you, I will share two scenarios I saw. The first was with a Nigerian musician. A lady came online and then accused him of drugging her drink and raping her after following him to his apartment. She did this with a picture she took of him in his apartment without his consent.
You all know how social media is; a lot of people came out to drag this artist and started calling him different names. His manager reached out to him, and after several investigations, it was later discovered that the lady was lying.
She came online to make an apology video, saying she wasn't in her right mind when she made those accusations, and she's sorry. She is sorry for tarnishing his image and hopes they can put all this behind them.
Just like our topic says, was that apology enough for the damages she has caused him?
You see, sometimes I feel like people do a lot of things because they believe if it doesn't go the way they want, they can come out later and make an apology video, and everything will be forgotten, but at a point, I feel that shouldn't be enough.
People need to be punished for their actions so they can think before they act. One thing I know for sure is that if the media agreed with her and there was no proper investigation, like in most cases, she would stand by her story, ruin the artist's life and get away with it but because she was caught, she thinks a 4-minute video would erase the wrong she has done. NO!.
The other case is the case of a popular activist in my country known as Very Dark Man (VDM). The truth is, I love some of the things the activist is doing, like giving voice to the voiceless and helping people see what they fail to see. He also stand against the brutal policy and acts of the government and people in power.
Because of the things he does, many times he has been asked to render an apology video, and from most of the videos I have seen, he seems to do it as if he were forced to. There is no hint of remorse from him, and this is why many people love him.
Recently, he was asked to tender an apology video to the senate president because of a video he made about him going to the burial of the pope. One thing he said was that, many people are being killed in our country by terrorists and groups of people who arm themselves to commit atrocities in the country. He hasn't gone to visit them, but someone who has no connection with him ran to his burial.
Now, in the apology video, instead of apologizing to the senate president, he sent his apology to the victims of people who have killed all over the country and many people stood by him.
This is to show that video apologies hold no weight; people only do this to have proof that someone was apologizing and their face was seen doing the apology.
Now, tell me. What are your thoughts about this?

I don't believe in video apology or an apology without remorse and repentance for that matter.
The media is not helping matters. They just publish any news without a second thought or investigation.
Before you come out to wreck havoc on someone, please be sure.
I try as much as possible to avoid giving apologies by trying to not breach people or cause harm to anyone.
I don’t even think apology cuts it when you tannish someone image
I hold my reputation high and if someone tries to rubbish me, e go collect o
I support you jare👍
Apology video does not draw the much needed attention like the accusations itself. So, I feel that the abuser be made pay so the wrong they have done to the innocent person.
With this, abusers will have to weigh their options before engaging in it.
Exactly
If they are punish
Other people will not do same thing and come up with same strategy of excuses
On point.
Just one scapegoat is enough.
Apology video is not from the heart
Yeah
Not all of them are from the heart

This is a generation that likes virtual things. I don't believe in video apology it's a deceit and no act of repentance because it's an eye service.
Yeah
You found the word I was looking for
It’s all
“Eyes service “ nothing serious
