Do We Really Need Friends to Be Happy?

Friendship is one of the most beautiful parts of being human. From childhood to adulthood, friends shape our memories, influence our choices, and often become the family we choose for ourselves. They share in our laughter, support us through challenges, and sometimes even teach us lessons that last a lifetime. But beyond the fun and companionship, friendship also raises a deeper question , do we truly need friends to be happy, or can we find complete joy on our own?

In this article, I’ll be sharing with you why we need friends, and how important friends are in our life. I’ll be sharing with you a recent story of what happened in my circle of friends and why having good friends matters a lot.

You know how human are classified as social animals right? Well, I am not an animal but I agree with the social part. The truth is, there is no way we can achieve anything on our own without the help of other people. It always saddens me when when I see people say the phrase

I did it alone. There was no one there to help me. 

You fact is this, we can’t do anything on our own, we need the help of friends, the help of close people for us to be able to achieve some certain things in my life. You see, something happened in the circle of my friends and this has taught me very important lesson why we need to keep good friends around us .

There is a friend of mine who sings, she’s quite popular in her church, but we are childhood friend and this means a lot to us, but it doesn’t seem to mean anything to her. Where a circle of friends wants to grow together and we make sure to share most of our achievements, our plans, anything we want to do, we share it among ourselves and this has help us grow and become more stronger to the point we wanna help other people achieve some of the things they want to.

Now this friend that is a singer wants to do her wedding and she’s just telling us, her childhood friend, a month to the wedding. The truth is, it’s her wedding and she can do whatever ever pleases her or invite whoever she wants to but friendship is also about respect because whoever you respect is also going to respect you.

Since she did not invite us officially many of the people in our circle of friends said they won’t be going for the wedding, but deep down she’s expecting us to come. She had a conversation with one of our friend recently saying she’s expecting us to come. She had told a lot of people that her childhood friends would turn up for the wedding but most of us feel disrespected already because why are you just informing them about the wedding few weeks to the wedding, not even carrying them along but you want them to turn up like they have been preparing for months.

At first, the people she was banking on to do the most for her failed her and now shes back to the people who was there from thr start but she didn’t respect.

Friendship goes beyond laughter, shared memories, or social gatherings, it’s built on love, respect, and mutual understanding. True friends don’t just show up when everything is perfect; they stand by you because they value the bond you share. What happened in my circle reminded me that no matter how busy or successful we become, we should never take genuine friendships for granted.

A life without good friends may look peaceful on the surface, but it often lacks depth, warmth, and true joy. Friends remind us of who we are, help us grow, and stand with us when life tests our strength. So, while it’s important to learn independence, it’s even more beautiful to appreciate the people who make life’s journey worthwhile our friends.

So to answer the question, do we really need friends to be happy? The answer is “Yes we do.” We need good set of friends or a friend to bring out the best in us.
