Digital Superstitions: Should You Say “Amen” Online?

Growing up, I was surrounded by all kinds of superstitions—from the fear of wearing black clothes to the market, to the belief that drinking coconut water would make you dumb (though ironically, some said it would make you smart). It’s wild to realize how many of those old beliefs have somehow found their way into the digital world.

One of the most common digital-age superstitions I’ve seen is the trend where people post certain prayer points or spiritual warnings in the comment sections of social media. You’ve probably come across posts that say something like:

“If you don’t say ‘Amen’ to this post, something bad will happen to you in seven days.”

It’s funny because I usually ignore posts like this. I scroll past without engaging. But sometimes, I catch myself wondering—did I do the wrong thing by not commenting? Am I really putting myself at risk just because I didn’t respond to a traffic-generating post?

There have been times when something bad happens, and my mind goes back to that ignored post. “Maybe this happened because I didn’t say ‘Amen,’” I think. Crazy, right? And yet, many people genuinely believe in these things.

But here’s what I’ve come to realize: if you don’t believe in a superstition, it probably holds no power over you. What I believe in is faith—real faith. That’s what makes things happen. Not a random post on the internet.

Still, we need to be careful. Not every superstition is harmless, and not every belief should be ignored. But in this digital age, it’s important to recognize what’s truly spiritual and what’s just designed to get clicks.

I see this most time on TikTok comments, and sometimes I just give it a like and ignore commenting.

“If you love Jesus, say Amen”

Yes I love Jesus, but you won’t be the one to tell me to say amen. If I want to I’ll but sometimes I feel bad for not saying it and I hope God is not angry at me. Well they are all baseless superstition.

Are there digital superstitions you have also come across. Why not share it with us in the Digital lifestyle community as this is my entry for the prompt.

I have come across messages like the one you shared and it irks me anytime I see such. Why force me to say amen to an online post that is creating traffic? Or is Jesus now in the internet and no more in heaven?
