A villain in her story but a hero in mine.

Growing up, I was a Superman lover. I love every hero, and I don't even want to know the pain the villains are going through or the kind of message they are passing and why; all I want is for the hero to appear and defeat the villain.

Why am I talking about heroes and villains? Well, this is all thanks to the Hive-Naija weekly prompt and this week, we got ourselves an interesting topic to discuss.

Villain or Hero: You have to choose being a villain in a story (movie or real life) to make someone learn a lesson and live a better life or become a hero in a story (movie or real life) to save someone at the expense of other lives. Which would you become?

I'm going to use a two-in-one movie to explain this. Have you watched the movie "Man of Steel"? Then the continuation of that movie was "Batman v Superman."

Now, in Man of Steel, Superman, the hero, was fighting against Zod because Zod wanted to revive his own planet using Earth. I, too, wouldn't allow that but the problem was, while Superman was doing that, he fought Zod through man-made buildings, and while watching "Man of Steel," all I wanted was for Superman to win but when I watched "Batman V Superman," I saw things from other people's angles while Superman was fighting. The death he caused and so on while people still hailed him as the hero.

Back to the question that was asked. The truth is I would gladly become a villain in both a movie and in real life.

I remember one time when my big sister was always going to see a guy opposite my street, most especially when my mom wasn't around. We were little and I was the only male child back then. I'm a guy and I know when a guy was up to no good, the guy would come around and they would be giggling in front of my house or sometimes she goes to his place and I follow behind.

One day, I told her, "Stop going to see George; I don't like him and I don't want to see you together with him."

She refused to listen, and the next day he put his hands over her shoulder and as a little boy, it felt like he had defiled my sister. I didn't say anything because if I talked, she would use her seniority on me.

So that night during devotion, as my dad was about to start praying, I raised my hand up and said, I have something to say. Everyone turned to look at me and my dad asked me to speak.

Then I went, "Aunty and George are sleeping with each other and I saw him put his hands on her." Then all the eyes that were on me went to my sister while her eyes were still on me.

I continue painting the story of how she goes out when my parents are not around, this and that, just to make sure her crime was very heavy. Did she dislike me after that "yes"?

My mom met him and gave him a sound warning and I was happy about it. "No boyfriend for you."

I did that to protect her; even if I was the villain in her story, I was the hero in mine.

In conclusion, there is a tiny line between villain and hero; sometimes when a hero acts in order to save or bring justice to someone or a group, that hero can be a villain in another person's story but a villain is a villain but few times can be a hero in someone else's story.

I loved the example you chose to show us that it depends on the situation you are in, and from there, you will see someone else as a hero or a villain.

As for what you did for your sister, she must have hated you, but I'm sure that over time she understood what you did for her, because it was for her own good.

Yeah
It’s all from individual perspective and yes
My sister hated me then. She didn’t even want me beside her and she made it very known to me she hated me but over time she was grateful for my action after some years

Well explained with your personal story, we can be both a villain and a hero in one story to different people. Your sister will definitely not be happy about what you did at that time but she will realize later it is for the best.
