entry smash 301: 3D shadows
since we are into the 3rd century of shadow hunting here are some
3-dimensional shadows
there is no wall between the kitchen and the dining room. instead there is a cupboard with a seaweed green stone countertop. when the sun shines on it the surface of the stone is slightly translucent giving a nice effect of depth. on the dining room side there are sliding black glass doors. these also become translucent when the light is direct. the cupboard has only one shelf made of polished kadappa, a black limestone. the flooring is tiles with a pattern resembling oak wood.
the afternoon sun shines through the windows on the south wall, casting shadows of the window grills onto the cupboard. the shadows that are cast on the glass continue through it onto the kadappa shelf inside- but only on the right side of the photo. to the left the kadappa shelf is barely visible due to the reflection of the tile floor on the glass. it gets complicated...
my contest entry is a little simpler and easier to comprehend. some dinner plates and a fish grill are visible on the shelf with the shadows, which are perpendicular to their counterparts on the glass doors and frame, creating the very real 3D effect
I don’t even know how to explain these shadows
They really look beautiful
I like them!
thanks a lot. and yes explaining the shadows is not easy when there is so much going on.
I think it takes craft to capture such cool 3d shadows as you have done. They look beautiful. Thanks for sharing and happy holidays dear friend.
thanks for the kind words. usually i photograph naturally occurring shadows that are all around us but are most often overlooked. it's mainly a matter of keeping an eye out for interesting ones and having a cell phone ready to capture them.
Merry Christmas
