The Beastie Boys- A Crossover Band with Hip Hop and Rock Appeal and my Risingstar Report 11/8/2023

The Beastie Boys were a popular and influential Hip Hop group who bridged the gap between fans of Hip Hop and rock and helped usher in the mainstream adoption of Hip Hop in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band also performed with some of the most famous bands of the 1990s, and helped set up and inspire many of the bands and artists I love and admire to this day.

The Beastie Boys were founded in 1981 and took the world by storm. The East acoast Hip Hop trio had their own style and hailed from New York at the same time Hip Hop heavyweight groups including A Tribe Called Quest, EPMD, KRS-1 and BDP were starting up. Their first commerical album, "License to Ill" came in 1986 and was warmly received by fans of Punk and Hip Hop alike. The Beastie Boys helped inspire Punk and Hip Hop artists to pursue their dreams, and the Beastie Boys performed with artists or both genres in the 1990s including the Smashing Pumpkins and Sublime.

The Beastie Boys had a wide audience appeal, and performed from 1981-2012. Their songs "No Sleep till Brooklyn", "Fight for Your Right" and "Intergalactic" still resonate with audiences today. They released a magazine called "Grand Royal Magazine" in the early to mid 1990s that was entertaining and featured art and stories from other influential Hip Hop artists on their perspectives. As a 40-something, I lived through the age of entertaining crossover alternative bands including Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park who incorporated aspects of Hip Hop and alternative rock into their style and cultivated excellence in their craft.

To this day, I am a fan of the wild and varied style of the Beastie Boys. Their influence has helped to make many fans of Hip Hop and alternative rock. How many crossover bands including HED-PE and Limp Bizkit have the Beastie Boys paved the way for? This is something I have pondered at length. Hats off to the awesome Beastie Boys!

My Risingstar Report 11/8/2023:

I keep pursing excellence in the game Risingstar. My general strategy appears to be working, and my Starbit claims are indeed rising as my ego score is crashing.
