What I learnt from my father about MY CULTURE
My heart feels with joy as I see the topic of this week "Culture" immediately I saw the topic my mind went back when my father was alive. As I kept remembering what he was teaching us by then.

Culture to me has to do with the mode of our dressing, the kind of food we eat. The way we celebrate some special festivals, the manner in which we eat food, the way we sit down.

For example: in the palace of the village Chief, we have a special seat for the chief while other cabinets have their seats, we don't sit on the floor.
Another culture of ours is the way we build houses. There are some particular ways that we use to build houses

Another of our culture is the way we eat food
I remembered when my father was alive, each time we were eating food together he kept rebuking us telling us that according to our culture there's a way we eat food. We don't eat like other people.

Especially when we eat food like garri, pounded yam,; that is the food we swallow.

I used to chew it before swallowing it. but my father will quickly rebuke me and say "according to our culture we swallow garri or pounded yam we don't chew it you can only chew food like; rice, yam Fufu yam and others but we don't chew garri, fufu before swallowing it
he keeps saying it until it becomes part of my life.

Another one is that you must link your fingers one by one proper before you can fetch another food
He keeps telling us that this is our culture

he keeps repeating it again and again and even when he is no more here on earth I never forget what he has been telling us so that is culture for me

Another one is the mode of dressing:
In our culture a married woman tied two pieces of wrapper and wore a blouse on top. A married woman doesn't tie one piece of wrapper. Each place you see women gathered you will see all of them wearing two pieces of wrappers. But if they are single they can wear one piece that is those that will like to use wrapper

Another one is foods that our people eat. For example soups like ogbono soup and egbusi soup offe Edde offe nsara these are cultural foods that we eat

another of our culture is the kind of food we eat like Abacha and that makes us different from others and this is the culture that I know

So culture to me has to do with the mode of dressing the food we eat the way we do things

And the festival we celebrate.

Thanks for passing bye

I never knew licking of fingers while eating could be a cultural norm, I guess that's why its called culture;a way of life of a people
