Life Journal - transition period
There is always more work to do! But sometimes, during transition periods, its important to take a step back and philosophize about where we are headed, what lessons we have learned along the way, and what the best moves forward would look like.
There is so much to life beyond work too, and I recognize that I am blessed to long ago have chosen a life and lifestyle that is not beholden to anyone else. Sure I have to eat my own porridge but at least I get to decide if it has raisins in it or not.
So many dimensions exist, we can interact and impact from infinite angles. But at the end of the day - what really matters? Setting goals and working towards them always remain the essential activity to life, otherwise you will never know if what you are doing is "working".
In business they call them KPIs - Key Performance Indicators. A wise textbook once said - "You get more of what you measure", so I suppose it might be worth while to figure out if you are measuring the right things?
One thing we like to measure is bird species viewed. My wife @ecoinstante is the top 54 birder of all time in Tolima, and we haven't really focused on Tolima for a long time, we have been visiting other parts of Colombia, and recently América Latina. No matter what happens in life, we will always have our Bird Lists, our "Citizen Science" participation, our photographs and memories.
6 weeks in Guatemala
We are officially "home"! And, by the way - its August now. Is the bull market here yet?
Its going to be quite a week, we've been on the road for over 6 weeks, and even though I think we managed to be quite productive for "vacation" - in all senses of the term productive - there is an absolute mountain of things that have been put off because of it. I'm not really even sure where to start, but I guess a few "life journal" type posts are in the works, because not only am I "out" of articles I managed to pre-write, every time I contemplate an official post on a few different topics I think twice.
I have a few world mappin' posts for several different locations partially built - but who is that for? I have a number of things I could say about a few different topics related to "other people's things", but "who cares?". Certainly not me, I am pretty sure giving advice is a thankless task that only makes sense if there is absolutely nothing else to post about.
Luckily, I have plenty of things to post about. A few things are ending, a few new waves are starting - I will probably just focus on "me" for a while, Lord knows that my own things need all of my attention that I can manage to spare. I even managed to shut a few of them down to transition into focusing more on a professional front for the things we do. Which, I guess I feel obligated to mention - all connect to each other.
Its my life
Its good to remember, to remind myself, that not only can we "just do things", but the things we do can be decided - where we put our energy and attention is completely under our control. There might always be a lot of things that are tempting to give attention to, and I know I am a sucker for "helping other people". But a super savvy argentino hit the nail on the head when he told me, "above all else, you have to make sure to focus on your thing".
Because no one else will!
Because no one else will......
Perfect words to remember
So happy you both are home
How are the legs? As fun as it to travel and spend time with amazing people, it's also good to be home.
Somehow, even with an extremely valuable and wonderful travel such as this one - the most exciting part is coming home!
Bingo, that's exactly right, we very much do need to prioritize our own things! Enjoy your back-to-you focus, my friend. You give so much, now it's time for you. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
