Review your habit

IMG_0876.jpeg

In my previous post, I talked about deliberate practice, and how we can use deliberate practice to improve our habits. You should be asking yourself what are the things you should be deliberate about to improve your habit. Sometimes when looking at some people you know, they have the talent and they have what it takes to be successful but for one reason or another, they have not been able to get the best out of themselves and this is because they are finding it difficult to improve and I’ve said it severally talent is not enough and most times hard work always win over talent.

When we are looking at how to get the best out of our habits, this is when we should focus on performance, and this is how hard work beats talent. You can have all the talent in the whole world, but to put in a great performance week in and week out, you have to put in the hard work, practicing every day does not guarantee that we are doing enough and it does not even mean that we are giving our best. It only means that we are not struggling with doing it over and over again. For you to know whether you are improving or not on your performance, You have to create feedback for yourself on the things that matter.

The feedback

Just like I mentioned yesterday going to the Gym once or twice a week may not give you the kind of results you need even going to the gym every day may not also give you the kind of results you need on the other hand you may have all the talent in the whole world and not guaranteed that you’re able to put in good performances every week. You have to put feedback into place as this will show the data that you are doing enough or not. A good example for someone who is working out at the gym and wants to build muscle must make sure they eat protein daily, target different muscle groups per day, and also get good quality sleep.

You can track all these when you are deliberately about it, which gives you a better review and the kind of data you need to know whether you are improving or not, at the end of every month you can’t even measure your muscle size this will give you an idea whether your muscle is getting bigger or not. You need data to know if you are improving or not. The same goes with performance you have to get the data on your performance level when you are practicing and you compare this data with the results of the average athlete in your field to know whether you are improving or not.

You will see things differently

A review gives you an insight into what you are doing wrong and also gives you an insight into your performance level and will let you know when you are not doing enough because you can easily practice every day without improving. It is easy for you to automate habit but habit will not guarantee improvement. What guarantees improvement is a proper review and understanding of where you are going. When you understand where you are going it will be easy to know things you want to work on and review them every month. It is easy to grow this way.

Thanks for your time.

I think this is also a great way to reach a desired outcome within a respectable timeframe. We need feedback data to make improvements, refine our approaches and speed up the process to get to the end goal. That's why I prefer time-bound goals over vague goals with an unclear deadline.

Success indeed needs deliberateness. There are times that nothing happens and you have to still hang in there. Not always an easy one, I guess nothing good comes eaay
