Me hubiera quedado tranquilamente en mi trabajo de 9 a 5.
Así de sencillo.
El 1 de enero de 2024 tomé la decisión de pedir la baja de mi empleo formal. No fue una decisión impulsiva, pero sí cargada de deseo. Quería vivir de mi pasión, hacer lo que realmente me gusta, y además necesitaba una vía de ingresos más flexible. En un país donde la estabilidad es más un deseo que una garantía, emprender parecía una forma lógica de crear seguridad por mi cuenta. Pero bastaron pocas semanas para darme cuenta de que esa suposición estaba completamente equivocada.
Emprender no tiene nada que ver con la seguridad
De hecho, es lo más parecido que existe a vivir en la jungla.
Cuando era empleado, tenía tiempo para mirar películas, pasear sin culpa, pensar en cosas intrascendentes. Podía enfermarme y no pasaba nada. Tenía un horario, un sueldo que llegaba puntual, y jefes que marcaban la pauta.
Ahora, en cambio, soy mi propio jefe… pero uno implacable. No me doy vacaciones, ni respiro. Me exijo más que cualquier jefe que haya tenido antes. La libertad tiene su precio. No me permito enfermarme. No hay días libres ni pausas largas. Y no porque alguien me lo impida, sino porque si yo no avanzo, nada se mueve. No hay compañeros que cubran mi turno ni una estructura que me sostenga si me desplomo.
Cada día se siente como una nueva expedición: tienes que encontrar una cueva donde refugiarte, buscar comida para sobrevivir, pero antes de eso construir la cocina, fabricar los cubiertos y aprender a encender fuego.
Todo depende de ti. Todo empieza por ti.
Ser tu propio jefe no se siente como me lo contaron
Al principio, esta realidad me abrumó. Me sentía agotado, inseguro, y muchas veces me pregunté si no había cometido un error. Pero con el tiempo descubrí que esta manera de vivir trae algo que no tiene precio: la responsabilidad. Y no me refiero a la carga pesada que solemos asociar con esa palabra, sino a una forma distinta de habitar el mundo.
Ser responsable de tu negocio te obliga a tomar decisiones todos los días, incluso cuando no tienes ganas. Ser responsable de tu vida te impide juntar las manos al cielo esperando que alguien más resuelva tus problemas. Ser responsable de tu mente te vuelve tan selectivo con lo que consumes, piensas y haces, que llega un momento en el que ya no puedes vivir en automático.
Nadie te rescata. Y eso es liberador
Ese tipo de responsabilidad, lejos de ser una prisión, se convierte en un motor. Te mantiene en estado de alerta. Te obliga a conocerte, a superarte, a dejar de culpar al contexto. Te obliga a crecer, aunque duela. Porque también hay belleza en este proceso.
A medida que el músculo emprendedor se fortalece, empiezas a disfrutar los problemas como si fueran juegos de lógica. Cada obstáculo se vuelve una oportunidad para crear algo mejor. Cada día hay espacio para aprender. Cada decisión es una apuesta, y aunque no siempre ganas, sabes que estás construyendo algo que tiene tu ADN.
Tus pensamientos se convierten en cosas
Y entonces ocurre la magia: tus pensamientos se convierten en cosas.
Las ideas que ayer parecían locuras, hoy son proyectos. Esos proyectos se convierten en productos, en servicios, en dinero. Y ese dinero pone comida en tu mesa, paga las cuentas y, de vez en cuando, te regala una satisfacción que ningún salario fijo puede igualar.
Porque no solo estás ganando dinero. Estás viendo el resultado directo de lo que eres capaz de crear. Es un privilegio extraño, agotador, pero profundamente transformador.
No todo el mundo quiere esta vida
Claro que hay días en los que extraño mi antigua vida. Extraño pensar en las musarañas, hacer scroll sin culpa, dormir sin preocupaciones. Pero si me dieran la oportunidad de volver atrás y cambiar mi decisión, lo haría todo igual.
Porque aunque emprender no tiene nada que ver con buscar seguridad —y más bien es todo lo contrario—, te entrega algo más poderoso: la capacidad de asumir tu vida con plena conciencia. Por eso no todo el mundo lo elige. Porque exige desprenderse de la ilusión de que alguien más te va a rescatar, de que existe una receta perfecta o un plan infalible. Exige dejar de esconderse. Exige mirar de frente.
Y esa valentía, aunque no se ve en la cuenta bancaria todos los días, se nota en la forma en la que caminas, hablas, y decides.
Emprender es un camino duro, pero si te animas a recorrerlo, terminas descubriendo que lo único verdaderamente seguro… es lo que eres capaz de construir tú.

- El fundador de un proyecto buscando potenciales inversores.
- Un emprendedor tratando de escalar su negocio unipersonal.

If I had known this is what entrepreneurship was like…
I would’ve stayed comfortably in my 9-to-5 job.
Simple as that.
On January 1st, 2024, I decided to resign from my formal job. It wasn’t an impulsive decision, but it was fueled by desire. I wanted to live off my passion, to do what I truly enjoy, and I also needed a more flexible source of income. In a country where stability is more of a wish than a guarantee, starting my own business seemed like a logical way to build security on my own terms. But just a few weeks were enough to realize how completely wrong that assumption was.
Entrepreneurship has nothing to do with security
In fact, it's the closest thing there is to living in the jungle.
When I was an employee, I had time to watch movies, go for walks without guilt, think about irrelevant things. I could get sick and it didn’t matter. I had a schedule, a paycheck that arrived on time, and bosses who set the pace.
Now, I’m my own boss… but a ruthless one. I don’t give myself vacations or breathers. I push myself harder than any boss I’ve ever had. Freedom has a price. I don’t allow myself to get sick. There are no days off, no long breaks. And not because someone forbids it, but because if I don’t move forward, nothing moves. There are no colleagues to cover my shift, no structure to catch me if I collapse.
Every day feels like a new expedition: you have to find a cave to shelter in, look for food to survive, but first, you have to build the kitchen, make the utensils, and learn how to start a fire.
Everything depends on you. Everything begins with you.
Being your own boss doesn’t feel like they told me it would
At first, this reality overwhelmed me. I felt exhausted, insecure, and I often wondered if I had made a mistake. But over time I discovered that this way of living brings something priceless: responsibility. And I don’t mean the heavy burden we usually associate with that word, but a completely different way of being in the world.
Being responsible for your business forces you to make decisions every single day, even when you don’t feel like it. Being responsible for your life prevents you from raising your hands to the sky waiting for someone else to solve your problems. Being responsible for your mind makes you so selective about what you consume, think, and do, that there comes a point when you simply can’t live on autopilot anymore.
No one is coming to save you. And that’s liberating
That kind of responsibility, far from being a prison, becomes a driving force. It keeps you alert. It pushes you to know yourself, to surpass yourself, to stop blaming the context. It forces you to grow, even when it hurts. Because there’s beauty in this process too.
As your entrepreneurial muscle gets stronger, you begin to enjoy the problems like logic puzzles. Each obstacle becomes an opportunity to build something better. Every day there’s space to learn. Every decision is a bet, and even if you don’t always win, you know you’re building something that carries your DNA.
Your thoughts turn into things
And then magic happens: your thoughts become things.
Ideas that seemed like nonsense yesterday are now projects. Those projects become products, services, income. And that money puts food on your table, pays the bills, and every now and then, gives you a sense of satisfaction that no fixed salary can match.
Because you’re not just earning money. You’re seeing the direct result of what you’re capable of creating. It’s a strange privilege — exhausting, but profoundly transformative.
Not everyone wants this life
Of course, there are days when I miss my old life. I miss zoning out, scrolling without guilt, sleeping without worries. But if I had the chance to go back and change my decision, I’d do it all the same.
Because even though entrepreneurship has nothing to do with seeking security —and is actually the opposite— it gives you something far more powerful: the ability to own your life with full awareness. That’s why not everyone chooses it. Because it demands you let go of the illusion that someone else will rescue you, that there’s a perfect recipe or a foolproof plan. It demands you stop hiding. It demands you face things head-on.
And that kind of courage, even if it doesn’t show up in your bank account every day, becomes obvious in the way you walk, speak, and decide.
Entrepreneurship is a tough road, but if you dare to walk it, you’ll eventually realize the only truly secure thing… is what you’re capable of building yourself.
