How are you today? I am fine here and I hope all of you are fine too. As usual, another week, another Splinterlands post from me... Welcome to my weekly Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS challenge. Today we have ODD ONES OUT ruleset as our main theme.

ODD ONES OUT ruleset limits your unit selection that only units with odd mana costs can be picked. The rest which are even mana cost, can not be used at all.

There are many ways to play in this ruleset. I will start with the most simple one, pick the element. Fire Element are dense with good odd mana cost units and Life Element in contrary with fire, they are full of great even mana cost units.

However there is an element, WATER ELEMENT, which regarless its odd or even, they have good line up. Sometime if I confuse which meta I want to go with, I just pick Water. Will this move effective? Let's check our battle first!

THE BATTLE

This was a Modern Gold league rank battle, and I was using BLACKRRSANTAN, a scholarship account from bulldog1205 the famous streamer. I used this account mostly to play Brawl for JUICE GUILD. Anyway if you are a diamond league player and looking for a good guild to play competitive brawl, please drop us a message. Let's get back to the main business, here were the rulesets we got:

Small mana cap, there was not many alterntive I could go with. I preferred to go with Water Element this time, because water had some great little league units, so I could build up a team with some units rathers than having one strong unit and rely on it.

So here was my line up:

Position	Card	Ability	Plan and Strategy
Summoner		1 armor, 1 speed	One of the best summoner from Chaos Legion edition. I prefer Kelya Frendul than Quix The Devious because with that limited amount of mana, I do not think anyone will bring a magic attack team. So armor +1 will be crucial buff here.
Main Tank		none	In general this is a regular good for nothing schrimp that you can grill him and turn him into your dinner. However in some occasion his thick armor and heath can be very annoying, especially when you do not have mage and shatter ability. In this battle, I think he will be the star.
Second		Tank Heal, Repair	I think overall she is one of the best support unit from Chaos Legion. She heals and repair, a perfect set for a healer. Her only weakness is that she can not attack. She is the perfect pair for Cruel Sethropod for this battle, making a indestructible wall.
Third		Fly, Sneak	Fast and furious but not a car race. Bandit is very fast and he could sweep out all opponent backline. It's a hard debate whether to go with Pelacor Bandit or Uraeus, but I think speed will be more crucial here so I choose Bandit.
The Last		Dodge, Phase	The last unit and a backline wall. I need to protect my bandit and my Merdaali Guardian from opponent sneak attackers and opportunist attack. I hope he could buy some time before he dies.

It's too bad I forgot to put in extra meat wall of 0 mana units. let see how things would go

• The battle started with both of us buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents.
• My opponent came with 7 melee damage per round.
• My team had 5 melee damage per round too.
• It seems my opponent came with more attacking approach. They had 3 attacking units when my team had only 2 attacking units only.

• None died in the first round, all seemed fine.
• My chaos agent managed to dodge incoming Uraeus attack.

• Round 3 started with both side having their full team.
• Again this time My chaos agent dodged the attack twice.

• Round 4 looked very promising to me, their Uraeus died without dealing any damage. It a waste for them.
• My chaos agent job had finished here. He would sit idle back there.

• It's a boring long round and I believed more boring rounds to come because its hard to kill the schrimps
• We killed their bird, albatros, and that's the end of their Cruel Sethropod healing suppport.

• 4 vs 2 , My team definitely won this battle. lets fast forward the rest of the turn.

• Oh no, My Sethropod had fallen. Tide Bitter was indeed very strong, maybe too strong for a 3 mana cost unit.

• This round my bandit killed that Tide Bitter.

• This was the last round, Good game

CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION

One of the basic approach in Splinterlands is to win the tank battle, and picking the best tank to win this... not a guarantee but not a bad move either... Sometime it becomes the best tactic we can come up with.

Cruel Sethropod is a unique small mana tank, and it has 3 mana cost which is eligible for ODD ONES OUT ruleset. In general, he does not stand out at all. However in certain condition, he will be great, and that condition is SMALL MANA CAP.

With below 20 mana cap, there is not much you can do and honestly It's hard to find any 1 or 3 mana cap tank better than him. The fact that my opponent came with him proved that he is highly preferable for a main tank role in the low mana cap battle.

The addition of Merdaali Guardian has completed CRUEL SETHROPOD function, high health and get healed, thick armor and get repaire, all the time. However having both is a bit risky, because I gamble everything on pelacor bandit, right? Well it's not, it will be a gamble if I pick Uraeus because of SPEED.

I think I will go with another Cruel Sethropod post later, for the same topic. Will I win again using this cheap tactic? who knows...
