That is a lot to deal with ... praying with y'all.
Regarding your mother ... she might also have thought ... "But they will need to use it." Her story reminds me of Ludwig van Beethoven's six huge bank shares ... he had saved all his life to have them, and toward the end, his friends urged him to sell so they could make him more comfortable. He refused. In his mind was his nephew Karl, whom he adopted after the death of his own brother, and who would have to continue to live in the world alone. We know this for certain because two days before his death, Beethoven reviewed his will and wrote a codicil to it to make doubly sure Karl would get those shares. His last signature is not on any of his music, but there, on his legacy of breaking the cycle of generational poverty in his family.
Because of the wonderful person that you are, I just think your wonderful mom thought, "I could use it ... but I'm leaving this world. My children have to stay in this world after me, so I'm choosing to help them, as best I can."
Thanks, I am sure that is what she thought, but our thoughts were with her. We even tried to get her to get a reverse mortgage on her home, but she was not having it.
I never knew that about Beethoven, it is very interesting and similar to my Mom.
Beethoven's family history is tragic. A lot of the infamous problems of his personality are explained if not excused by that ... abused by his drunkard father, but eventually caretaker for him and his younger siblings, all while becoming the Beethoven we know -- and then dealing with deafness -- and then one of those younger siblings dying and leaving his son, Karl, to the care of the elder brother he knew would stop at nothing to make sure Karl made it because that elder brother had made sure, while doing and going through everything else, that his younger brothers would make it. So, quietly, Beethoven got it all done, faithful to the end. It is the thing I admire about him the most, even though OF COURSE, his music is admired by the world. It is also why I recognize elders with the true greatness of Beethoven in that respect, even though they are driving the folks around them up the wall because they could suffer less ...
