Monarch butterflies passing through

I always enjoy the end of October and first part of November in the central Texas hill country. It is the time of year when the heat subsides and a coolness creeps into the air.

This year was also more special because the monarch butterflies migrated through. Compared to years past, there were so many more butterflies passed through than i can remember during the five previous years.

We were just getting ready to cut down all of the mostly wilted sunflower plants when I noticed a monarch butterfly flying high in the air. This reminded me about there migration

I sat down to see if i could spot any more. I counted about 10 fly over in the course of about 10 minutes

Some landed on the sunflower plant. I tried to get some photos but they just would not stay still for me.

Over a 5 day period every where you looked was another monarch butterfly. It was very exciting to experience. Just thinking about how far they had already flew and knowing they still had a long long way to go to fly to their over winter home in some mountains in Mexico.

I waved to them and wished them luck on their long journey and to a safe return come spring.
