LIA - Bird Nest with Babies on Back Porch

I have been sharing how hot it has been around our area over the past month. It has been over 100F almost every single day and the next two weeks it will be over 100F each day as well.

Some Barn Swallows built a next on our back porch in the top corner which is about 20 feet off the ground. There were three babies to begin with and one fell out (or was pushed) before it even started growing it's feathers.

The remaining two babies have grown nicely over the past week but jump about when their mother brings food. One day, I noticed one of the babies on the back porch so it must have fallen out but then about an hour later the other baby was on the porch as well. But since they cannot yet fly, it must have fallen in such a way that it died on impact.

This is the remaining baby which has been on the back porch for the last two days. We try to stay away from it and not disturb it so that it's parents will not abandon it. The parents have continued to bring it food. I am hoping that it will start flying soon.

There are also other birds that visit the back porch to take advantage of the shade which is slightly cooler than the blistering sun. It did get up to 108F yesterday.

Since it is so hot, we put out some water for the birds because there is not any place close where water is otherwise available. I am just hoping that this will provide them a little relief so that they will survive until we get some rain and cooler temperatures.
