Ayer vi un video en Youtube sobre la expansión cripto en Latinoamérica y Venezuela no salía entre los cinco principales; cuando siempre estuvo en el primer lugar, debido precisamente a su situación económica, donde los venezolanos vieron un escape en las criptomonedas. Bueno, pero lo que me llevó a escribir este post (que tenía meses "intentando") fue el comentario de @cpol quien me recomendó leer un post de @hallmann ¿Qué pasó con Hive en Venezuela? donde pregunta sobre la disminución del uso de @thedistriator en Venezuela.

Iba a responderle y preferí hacer un post (que tenía pendiente hace meses). La respuesta rápida es: diferencial cambiario entre el dólar o HBD y el bolívar. La respuesta larga se las doy a continuación...

Hubo un tiempo en que Venezuela se parecía a los demás países del mundo. Tenía su propia moneda y se podía comprar otras monedas FIAT en bancos o casas de cambio. Después vino un control cambiario, que significa que nadie podía comprar otras monedas incluido el dólar sin permiso del gobierno. El gobierno daba cierta cantidad de dólares para los cambios y fijaba el precio. Esto creó un mercado negro de divisas, las cuales eran más caras que las oficiales. Quizás esos fueron los años más duros. Después se "dolarizó el país". De tener una fuerte restricción, pasamos a que todos tengan dólares, que todos hablen de eso y que todos los comercios coloquen sus precios en dólares. En este momento en Venezuela, todo el mundo calcula en dólares, incluso el Estado cobra en dólares muchas de sus gestiones, incluido el pasaporte.

Esto hizo que la economía se estabilizara por dos o tres años. La devaluación cayó y casi ni se notaba. La gente comenzó a vivir mejor, pero también los precios subieron mucho y la vida se hizo más costosa que en la mayoría de países. Then came an exchange control, which means that no one could buy other currencies including the dollar without permission from the government. The government gave a certain amount of dollars for the exchanges and fixed the price. This created a black market for foreign currencies, which were more expensive than the official ones. When few official ones were available, the black market price went up.

In the following years and due to the drop in oil prices, the supply of dollars decreased. In addition, production fell and more was imported from other countries that received dollars. This meant that for some years, it was forbidden to have dollars, or even to mention it and talk about it. People nicknamed it “green lettuce” and “European lettuce” for euros.

Perhaps those were the hardest years. Then the country was “dollarized”. From having a strong restriction, we went from having a strong restriction, to everyone having dollars, everyone talking about it and all the stores put their prices in dollars. At this moment in Venezuela, everybody calculates in dollars, even the State charges in dollars for many of its transactions, including the passport.

This made the economy stabilize for two or three years. The devaluation fell and was almost unnoticeable. People started to live better, but also prices went up a lot and life became more expensive than in most countries. En Venezuela ya estamos acostumbrados a calcular los cambios todo el tiempo. Aunque tuvimos algunos años sin hacerlo, este súper poder no podemos perderlo 🤣. Por lo que habrá tiempos en que salga más barato pagar con bolívares y otros tiempos mejores con HBD. Pero tu decisión no solo se debe basar en el simple cambio, sino también en el residual que te queda del post y además de la contribución al crecimiento de HIVE.

Además podemos pensar en esto cuando adoptemos comercios:

• Que sean comercios de consumo habitual, donde la gente vaya todos los días. Ejemplo, una panadería, un supermercado, transporte público, venta de agua, kioskos, etc. Esto para aprovechar el aumento del cashback por consumo. Recuerda que cada vez que lo usas, te regresan 5% más que la vez anterior.
• Que haya hivers cerca, creadores de contenido. Comprar HBD con bolívares para comprar con ellos, puede no ser buena idea en este momento. Es por eso que construir una comunidad de creadores de contenido que ganan HBD por sus publicaciones y van a gastar en la tienda cercana, es una gran idea. Además que si son nuevos usuarios, se acostumbran al sistema en vez de solo cambiarlo a bolívares.
• Crear concursos y retos en conjunto con el comercio. Se pueden crear ofertas y promociones para clientes fieles que pagan con HBD.

Solutions

In Venezuela we are already used to calculate the changes all the time. Although we had some years without doing it, this super power we can't lose it 🤣. So there will be times when it will be cheaper to pay with bolivars and other better times with HBD. But your decision should not only be based on the simple change, but also on the residual you have left from the post and besides the contribution to the growth of HIVE.

We can also think about this when adopting trades:

• Let them be stores of regular consumption, where people go every day. For example, a bakery, a supermarket, public transport, water vending, kiosks, etc. This is to take advantage of the increase in cashback for consumption. Remember that every time you use it, you get 5% more cashback than the previous time.
• Make sure there are hivers nearby, content creators. Buying HBD with bolivars to buy with them, may not be a good idea right now.
