Paloma
Part 2
“Don't worry, son, I'm with you," his dad said from behind. He got afraid and turned after hearing the voice. He could not find anyone. “Maybe it was my imagination," he said.
As he wanted to proceed on his journey, the voice came again, saying “Son!”. He turned again but saw nothing. His heart was pounding, just like a pounding mortal.

He was freezing, but later summoned the courage to proceed on his journey. Meanwhile, the community members were all afraid of death. No one wanted to take the risk of going to see what was happening except Paloma. He truly has a brave heart, just like his father.
“You have my heart, and please, you are going to come back as a hero," his father said.
Finally, he responded to his late father's voice, “Yes, father.”.
He began to journey to what he presumed would bring him success.
Paloma was holding his axe straight on his shoulder. He accelerated to where the heavy noise was coming from. Whereas, his community has been in deep poverty. No one knew how to bring back the once-happy faces of the masses.
The community was once happy, but after some kind of plague that got so many infested with what they only knew as disease, The disease has no name. No specialists have been able to give it a name. No one knows whether it's the handiwork of the ancestors, but what sins have they committed?
They have been suffering without being cured, although not everyone is affected. Even the children are part of the affected population. The solution to this was not stated.
As Paloma proceeded on his journey, he heard a sound, as if someone were approaching. He halted, trying to get a full picture of who was coming. He stood at a spot, observing, but could not hear any sound. As he moved, footsteps approached. He ran, and so the footsteps followed.
He was not ready to be distracted, instead ignoring the footsteps. “At least I'm a son of my father," he soliloquized.
He got to the base of the river without noticing anything. “So, what was that, then, if nothing is here? Does that mean nothing fell, or no noise was heard? Or was it just my imagination? No, no way. There must be something in there or here, he began to search. As he moved, the footsteps drew closer. He never gave up but seemed to ignore the footsteps approaching. He used his little axe to clear the obstruction and proceeded. Not only that, but he got to a place and was wondering what must have made the flat surface become hollow. The hole was just unending and was so tiny up and somehow wide when viewed inside. He looked up and heard the footsteps again. As he was about to turn, he sighted Sophie, but then he miscalculated and fell inside the pit.
“Nooooooo…" Sophie shouted, but she had nothing to do anymore and instead watched him fall deep inside the pit.
Nothing on earth would be able to save Paloma. It's just the outer part that is slim, but deep inside, it's so wide. So, nothing to even hold, just for him to at least struggle to come out of the pot. Sophie ran close to the pit and began to cry bitterly.
She cried at home, and everyone was surprised to see Sophie in tears. “What's the problem?” Her mom asked, although in deep pain from the plague that befell them.
“Mum, it's Paloma; he’s no more,” Sophie said.
“What kind of statement is that?” Do you think Paloma would just go like that and die without bringing a new home? We all trust him, and our lives are in his hands.”
“Mum, he has gone without coming back," Sophie said.
“How?” Her mom responded.
“I followed him unknowingly.”When he got to a pit, he was just gazing through and was caught by my presence. He later miscalculated and fell into a pit. I watched him fall, and this indicated that I'm the cause of his death, Sophie said.
“No one would think what you are thinking, but you shouldn't have followed him no matter what," her mom said.
“I just wanted to know what was going on with the sound and decided to follow him,” Sophie responded.
