Road Trip to Lepakshi from Bangalore
Lepakshi is a small village in the Anantapur district of Andhra pradesh and it is just 120 kms from Bangalore. Lepakshi, even though it's small village, is famous for its cultural diversity where it has a popular Veerabhadra Swamy Temple also known as Lepakshi Temple.
So we have started in the morning at 8 and then we took the road as Devenahalli, Chikkballapura and to Lepakshi. This is also a place where the famous bird Jatayu fell while fighting Ravan when he abducted Sita Ji. Along with a famous Jatayu bird statue, you will find an architecture marvel in the form of Veerabhadra Temple.
So it took around 2.5 hours to reach to Lepakshi from Bangalore as we have taken 2-3 small breaks in between. We have traveled by bike but there are busses too which runs from Bangalore to Hindupur, and lepakshi Temple is just 13 kms from Hindupur.
You can also read the small history about the temple below. It is believed to be built in 1583 by two brothers namely Viranna and Virupanna during Vijayanagara Period. So we can say that this architectural marvel is a style if Vijayanagara. The temple is dedicated to Lprd Shiva and has idols of GameShark, Nandi and Lakshmi.
We have to keep our shoes and wash our hands and legs in the.
Inside the temple you can see a lot of pillars with God's and Goddess carvings in the rocks. It si very similar to the ones I have visited in Hampi where we have seen such marvelous architecture.
There is also a hanging pillar in the compund where there is a space between the pillar and the ground. It is believed to be mystery till date.
Inside the temple you will fund a Nagalinga statue which is said to be the largest monolithic Nagalinga in India.
Then we have a Ganesha statue too Inside the compound.
And then there are other things in the compound, like the courtyard, prayer rooms, Kalpana mandappa.
The courtyard is surrounded by a series of pillars.
The Kalpana mandappa is incomplete and it's being called Ardha Mandappa.
Then we have a giant footprint which believed to be either of Mata Sita or Ravan.
Then we reached to the Jatayu Park. It is just a small nature park and then we can go up to the Rock to see the Jatayu from the top. We can see the entire village also from the top.
It was a good trip but it was very hot because completing the temple and jatayu park took around 3 hours. So it was around 1 when we left Lapakshi. There is no good hotel nearby and we have to travel for 20 kms before getting on hotel where we had the lunch. So the tip for lepakshi is to that since the climate is hot its better to reach the temple in the morning so that you can come back by noon. We have carried our snacks so that we could delay our lunch so it's better to carry snacks as there is no place nearby to have lunch or snacks.
I believe that we should actually go to these places to see the architecture marvel when we do not had any technology and other things but still those were built and is staying strong till this time.
Beautiful temple with nice architecture...I also always think that in ancient times how they built these beautiful things 😄
