A DIY Stretchy Turtleneck Top with Rib Fabric

Hello #Needlework family 👋
It’s another beautiful Monday to share our #creativity and #DIY projects.

One thing I’ve learned from #sewing is that the strength of a person is limitless, once you set your heart to something, there’s truly nothing you can’t achieve. Making this turtleneck top reminded me of that fact.

For this project, I used a black rib fabric. I chose rib because of its stretchiness and soft cotton texture, which makes it perfect for comfortable and sleek outfits. Casual wear (and even baby wear) is my favorite niche in the fashion world because it never goes out of style. Plus, you don’t have to be a professional to create something nice, it’s quick, easy, and fun compared to bespoke outfits.

My Sewing Process 🧵

I started by drafting the bodice on pattern paper. I love working with pattern paper because once I have it, I can reuse it again without redrafting.

Next, I transferred the pattern onto my fabric and cut it out.

I also drafted the sleeves and transferred them to fabric.

For the neckband strip, I cut 6" in length (on fold 3") and 12" in breadth (on fold 6").

I placed the front and back pieces right sides facing each other, joined the shoulders, and attached the neckband strip, stretching it gently to fit the neckline curve as I sewed.

After that, I sewed the sleeves to the armholes, then continued with a straight stitch from the wrist to the hem of the top in one continuous line on both sides.

Finally, I folded and stitched the hem of the sleeves and the top to give it a clean finish.

And just like that, my turtleneck was ready! ✨ I achieved all this using my blackhead straight stitch sewing machine.

This top is unisex and can easily be worn by anyone who loves simple, stylish, and comfy wear. I really love how it turned out, and I hope you do too. 💕

Thanks for reading and happy sewing! 💕

The turtle neck looks cool and cozy. You should try to take clearer photos in better lit location. Well done still
