When work starts rewarding success, it's easy to ratchet up complexity: homes, cars, travel, possessions, etc.

All that complexity comes at the expense of the most fleeting asset: time. Instead of building, attention shifts to minutiae and logistics. Conversations that were mostly with engineers become mostly with non-engineers.
