When work starts rewarding success, it's easy to ratchet up complexity: homes, cars, travel, possessions, etc.
All that complexity comes at the expense of the most fleeting asset: time. Instead of building, attention shifts to minutiae and logistics. Conversations that were mostly with engineers become mostly with non-engineers.
The building stops… the business of managing self-inflicted complexity begins.
Notably, top players like Buffett and Elon have kept lives extremely basic, almost monastic or nomadic, as success scaled them higher.
