We can't really say that people "invest" in memecoins. It's closer to the truth for us to say that people "speculate" on memecoins with the expectations of hitting it big to cash out as soon as possible. $DOGE was a special case.
True, many treat memecoins as speculative plays. Even for high-profile cases like DOGE, it's wise to have a clear risk plan in place before jumping in
