This chart gives the best guide as to what voters think about UK political parties
It's from Ipsos-Mori:
Notice that 14% have a favourable view of Reform UK, which means that the real reason the Conservatives are struggling is because they have lost support to their right. (In summer 2019, we saw something similar when they lost votes to the Brexit party).
As in 2019, they have to get those voters back if they are to stand any chance at the next election. Hence the fight-back against ULEZ, the announcement of new licences for drilling oil and gas in the North Sea and so on.
They will also be hoping that Reform UK don't field too many candidates at the next election. In 2019, where the Brexit Party fielded a candidate, Labour won, (for example Yvette Cooper's seat in Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford), as the right wing vote was split between the Tories and the Brexit Party.
On the left, the high favourability of the Greens poses a threat to Labour. In the recent by-elections, the Green vote went up in all three contests.
